Finished project: 6906 EDC for me

Update: I have tried different ammo in the 6906, including Hornady Critical defense, Speer Gold Dot 124 +P, Federal 124 grain HST, and the old Illinois State Police load (Federal 9BPLE) +P+ 115 grain. The 9BPLE was still the best group in rapid fire. The 6906 really seems to love them.

Pics to go along with my post above. Same length metal base plate, 6906 v. 5906 grip frame. The 5906 grip frame sweeps forward, so the base plate sits flush with the frame. The 6906 frame is straight, and the base plate protrudes out about 3~4 mm.

From the discussion above, I am assuming there was no shorter metal base plate for the 6906 frame, or just not as easily found as the one for the 5906?

In the 1980s I was an LEO and range master at a PD that carried S&W 59s. I confess, when the Smith Rep brought in the preproduction sample of the 469, I was gobsmacked!

There are two "eternal" pistols for me: 469/6906 and the 1911.

I see that you were a deputy in the mountains. My dad was a deputy in Mariposa County in the 80's. I have the 39-2 that he bought and carried on duty. I learned how to shoot with this gun when I was a kid. I remember he was happy when he was able to switch from carrying a 38 revolver (357 loaded with 38) to the 39-2.
