Accidents happen to us all. We try as hard as we can to be prepared, but stuff happens. So, here is a suggestion give to me by a retired police chief about guns...

Take pics of all your guns. Be sure to get a close up of the serial number. Put them on a CD or some other storage device or even print them out. Then go get a security deposit box and store it there.

It's important to store it out of your own home. If your home burns or is burglarized, it could be lost. Thieves will take the entire safe if possible and computers are easy targets for burglars.

Having this information when it comes time to make a claim to the insurance company could be the difference between being paid and not.

Just some food for thought.

When I update my firearms information, I print a copy and mail it to a friend. He knows what it is, and just leaves it in a sealed envelope, in his safe. The envelope does not have a return address, and the list does not have my name or address on it; it has the policy number of my homeowners insurance and the company. Most of my guns are scheduled as a rider on my policy.
