Hopefully someone can chime in with first hand knowledge after searching everywhere, and coming up with nothing.

I have acquired a pre-E series S&W 1911, and the firing pin safety parts have been removed. The E series did away with the firing pin safety because it was found to be drop proof using a titanium firing pin.

I would like to know if the newer E series firing pin would drop in to a pre-E, thereby allowing it to be drop safe without reacquiring and installing the parts.

I had read that the S&W line of 1911's had different dimensions for their FP's... but it wasn't specified if this is for all (pre-E & E series) compared to other makes, or if they're even different between S&W series other than steel vs. titanium. Hopefully this makes sense.

Any help is appreciated.

I have always heard that the S&W 1911 is parts interchangeable with the Colt, for the most part.

I would think that a titanium firing pin with an extra power FP spring would do the trick.

Even Colt is using this arrangement on its 70 Series (no firing pin block) guns.
