Have read several posts about removing Firing Pin from the bolt and cleaning it. Question is "How do you remove the firing pin from the bolt?"

Thanks for any tips.

How often do you guys recommend taking the firing pin out and cleaning it?

I always remove the extractor and clean it after each outing, as it is easy, but the firing pin? (That doesn't look so easy and also looks like you might ruin the roll pin after so many cleanings)

Just curious.

Never. I've broken a firing pin, but never felt the need to clean the firing pin or the firing pin channel.

If you must clean it, you could soak it in brake cleaner, or spray some carbon solvent gun cleaner in the firing pin hole. Make sure to dry it real well (no lubrication!) before firing it again.

Haven't watched that video. You don't need to remove the retainer roll pin. Just enough so that the firing pin can be removed. Makes it easier when doing the reverse.

We'd have never taken the pin out of my cousin's if it hadn't broken. Likely wouldn't have had a need to.

I have a 15-22 with over 110k rounds thru it and never removed a firing pin for cleaning. Now I have to say 6 broken firing pins have been removed (between 15-20k each) and they were not that dirty. Since I had the bolt disassembled a little cleaning of the firing pin channel occured.

I would recommend that unless the firing pin is binding up, leave it alone.
