I ordered a 686 couple of weeks ago while sitting in my TOC in Afghanistan. I'm on leave and picked it up last Monday. I finally got a chance to shoot it today. It definitely is a tack driver and I couldn't be happier.

Don't get me wrong. The 686 is keeping company with an M&P 9c.

i hear ya i was sure you had that base covered , i have my 686 and my 625 -3 3" so i am looking for a good auto myself some day but i really feel the need to get a rifle first because if shtf that would be my go to gun or my shotgun.

Welcome to the forum, I am also sitting at kandahar airfield. You did good picking that revolver, a range report is required, pictures of target, girlfriend, favorite bar would also be nice!!

Not being a die hard revolver guy like a lot of folks that hang around this end of the forum, I still do like revolvers. This may sound weird, but I feel the best part of owning a revolver is that you don't have to pick up brass.

Dragon, congratulations on your purchase! You will find out that 1 Smith is not enough! I recently got a super clean 586 (blued version of 686) Good shooters. Enjoy it, and watch out for the disease! Bob

Thanks. I would shoot it more but can't find any rounds. I went to a gun show after I returned from the 'Stan. I was looking for a 29. I didn't find one but the wife came home with a nice 586. She loves it.

What you need is a reloader. I am not sure if you can save any money reloading, but you sure can shoot more.

The comment about not picking up brass, is not totally accurate. I shot a Steel Match yesterday, and I did have to pick up some of my brass. It was in a much smaller pile than my Colt 1911 puts it in however.

Enjoy your 686, it is one of the best.

DragonDoc First thank you for your service and welcome home. Second congratulations on the S&W Model 686 its a very nice revolver.

Hi Dragon: Congrats on the 686. It's a wonderful gun and one I'd put up against anything else people might want to compare it with.

BTW, I got my 686+ 4" today from of my LGS . . . I live in CA and there's a 30-day purgatory period if you've bought a gun with the last 30 days - I had. The DA trigger break is like a crystal stem shattering - clean, instantaneous and super predictable. SA is feather light. I love it!!!

I've shot my shooting coaches extensively and really like it.

P.S. Thank you for your service.

Rachel
