I took my full size M&P45, to the range today. Four different brands of ammo, & NOT a hitch, PERFECT. Just one small hick cup, sometimes (not always) when inserting the next full mag into the gun, it would go into battery. I am NOT slapping the bottom of the mag hard, just a tap with the palm of my hand. Any others out there experiencing the same?

Yes, most of use have experienced the slide dropping upon insertion of a new mag. Some like it and some don't. Personally, I like it.

Thanks for the reply. Although I don't mind it dropping into battery, upon insertion of a new loaded magazine, I would prefer it to do it always, rather than occasionally.

I have FS M&P40 & a Compact 40. It takes quite a slam to make it go into battery but I like it when it does. A friend has a FS 40 & he can't get his to do that no matter how hard he shoves the mag in & another friend has the same "problem" you do. He used to carry without a round chambered until I convinced him otherwise. Then he'd load the mag with the slide closed.

I have to slam my 9mm very hard to do this. Even then it's random. I'm glad it doesn't.

First time I saw that happen, it was an M&P 45 that was issued to a Detroit cop. Asked about it at my LGS, was told it happens with polymer frames. Same thing happens with Glocks I'm told. I've got 3 M&P's, hasn't happened with any of mine,,, yet.

Nice purchase, you made a fine choice.

As Donn said, it happens on occasion with polymer guns, don't sweat it. It's usually caused by slamming the mag. Some people intentionally try to be able to get it to happen every time, but it's a mistake in my opinion. Beside the torque on the mag from slamming it, on rare occasions, the slide will close and not chamber a round, I don't want to chance it. I'll take the slingshot method myself. JMO, others may vary.

It should be noted that the magazine should not be "slammed" into the gun. If the slide is closed, this could dent the top bullet which in turn could cause feeding/ejection issues.

One, firm motion. That's all you should need to insert a mag.
