I thought this was really worth posting. It's a video of the prototype F-35B fighter aircraft. This plane combines stealth technology with short takeoff and vertical landing capability from an aircraft carrier, with no sacrifice in speed or manueverability.

This video link is fresh (for the public). It was
made just six weeks ago in the Atlaticictic, just off
Newport News ( Hampton Roads), Virginia .
These are the latest sea trials of the F-35B on the
USS Wasp. They were very successful, with 74 VL's
and STO's in a three week period.

The media and the program critics had predicted that
we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors
overboard.

Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor
standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates.

That was an intentional part of the sea trials.
No catapult... No hook... It's a new world out
there!

The shape and scope of warfare - worldwide - just
changed.

Now we can only hope that the current administration will not "share" the technology with our potential enemies or cut funding for this incredible development. It's truly amazing.

I think this one could be on the chopping block because as usual it is way over budget and not going to get any better

The cockpit labeling showed the first bird to be flown by a Lt Col.

With the Peoples Republic of China building an F22 lookalike, we'd best get really working on this one since Obammy cancelled the F22 production. Worst case, it gets dumbed down as a replacement for the Super Harrier (or whatever they call the thing) currently in use.

The Navy is going to want 2 engines. I worked on the prototype F18's back in the 70's (Conrac was a MCD subcontractor for the "Stores Management Processor") and the reason for it (besides replacing the variable geometry f14) was the F16 had only one blower. This is one amazing plane, the prototypes always are. Joe

I make it as 2 Lt. Col. (Kelly, Schenk) and 1 Maj. (Rusnok), but I could only make out 2 tail numbers (BF-02, BF-04). Maybe a third aircraft, or a change of personnel?

Well Bill Clinton didn't have a problem transferring rocket technology from the Loral Corporation to China, AGAINST the advice of the CIA, FBI, DOD, and Joint Chiefs. But he DID get a nice donation to his library fund so what is the safety of 300,000,000 Americans compared to his ego.

In the strictest sense, that is NOT a prototype, it is one of the pre-production flight test airplanes and the production airplanes will be nearly identical. The prototypes flew several years ago.

All three versions (A - Air Force, B - Marine, and C - Navy) are already designed and all three are single-engine.

Does it have "normal" landing capability for a land based opperation?

Yes, it does.
