A few weeks ago I found and bought a 15-22 with the plain unthreaded barrel. Of course being me... I then began to think I'd like to have a flash hider on the end of the barrel. I even began to think that some day I might like to screw on a sound suppressor so that I could shoot it in the back yard.
I rapidly discovered that the cost of threading and fitting a FH was more than a nickle and dime. So... I figured forget about it. After all, I figured who really needs a FH on a little 15-22?
How things change. Yesterday afternoon I was at a LGS where I found and bought some little .22 Short Hollow Points which I figured I could shoot in my little 18-3. While I was checking out I asked the owner if they had any 15-22's. In a minute he came back with a standard 15-22 w/ the FH. I asked if he'd be open to a trade and he said yes.
Today I took a pastor friend to the range. He'd never fired a handgun. We started with the 18-3 and then he shot a 4" 66, a 4" 28, a 625-2 as well as my SA GI-1911 and a nicely customized Rock Island 1911. For someone who'd never fired a handgun he did very well. After lunch he went back to work and I headed back for a afternoon meeting. I made a detour by the LGS where I showed the owner my 15-22. He allowed me $22 more than I paid for it. I gave him $21 difference and headed out the door for my meeting. He said he could sell either rifle w/o any trouble. I figured just buying a FH to put on the rifle would cost more than $21 for the FH and crush washers. So... it looks like he's happy... and I know I'm happy.
I have a order due in from Tactical Advantage for some nice 10 rd. S&W 15-22 magazines by ProMag that is supposed to get here by Tuesday. I figure Tuesday night I'll modify the tabs and convert them to 32 rds. and then come Thursday morning I'll head for the range and have some fun! For that I have some CCI Mini-Mag .22 LR ammo that I've been saving for a special occasion. Surely a new rifle and magazines qualifies as a special occasion!
