Ok... I have torn the Internet apart, and watched tons of totally unhelpful videos on YouTube, and read every post I could on here without use...

The flash hider on my MP 15-22 will NOT come off... I tried by hand, with a wrench, and then I put the barrel in a vice and tried... Still nothing!! There is no pin holding it... What am I doing wrong??

Any ideas????

Mine was a royal pain to get off as well. I ended up taking a torch to the flash suppressor for a minute or two, and that expanded the metal enough to where it would twist off the barrel with some effort.

this should do the trick

Hmmm...I have the exact opposite problem...won't stay tight, every couple of mags I can turn it by hand....

First, be sure you are trying to loosen it in the right direction....and that would be in a counter-clockwise direction.....

I finally wound up putting a flat-blade screwdriver thru the slots of the compensator and with the barrel braced in a vise, I gave the screwdriver a "little" whack with a hammer! That worked for me! :D

I know a couple of others that used a little Liquid Wrench to help loosen it up.

Hope this helps.....

Put a few drops of penetrating oil on the washer, and let it soak down into the threads.

I don't have a washer in there....hmmmm....what is this washer that you speak of, sounds like I am missing something resulting in my continued loosening of it.

There should be a crush washer between the flash hider and the barrel. Did you lose yours when you removed the flash hider previously?

Got it in a trade...and there's nada in there...can you describe it, I will put one in...that explains it coming loose every 2 mags...

This is the part you need:

Machine Crush Washer AR-15

Obviously you should try to buy it locally, as the shipping will probably be 3x more than the part itself. Remove the flash hider, slip the crush washer on with the convex side facing out, then screw the flash hider on. Hold the barrel with your hand and snug it up with a wrench.

Inspect your rifle for other signs of Bubba's handiwork. If someone fooled around with the flash hider and reinstalled it incorrectly, who knows what else they did to the thing.

Heat the end of the barrel over the stove, gas range, unitl very hot to touch, then try again.. I had to do that to remove the A1 Flash suppressor, I replaced it with a Jerry Miculek compensator, works too!..

Prior owner might have used some Loctite on it. I had this situation with an AR. It had red Loctite used on the flash hider. I heated the threaded area with a propane torch just hot enough to loosen it up and it turned it off but it still needed a good bit of force. Loctite does just what it says...it locks things tight!! :)

Good idea...

Thanks for the information everyone... Heating is about the only thing that I haven't tried yet! I will do that this week and let you know what happens! :)
