What S&W revolvers had the flat latch and when did they change to what they are now?

I and J frames up to about 1966 had flat latches. Also, model 12 K frames had them up to 1966.
Its probably marked 1955 due to them viewing the inside of the box which has printed insturctions etc on the inside of the box lid, and the date there is 1955. This does not mean the gun was made in 1955. They used those boxes with that date for at least 20 years past 1955. The only way to tell date of manufacture is to post the serial #.
