FN FIVE-SEVEN LONG RANGE PISTOL

Just found out about this little weapon a few weeks ago and been checking lots of sites about it. All looks pretty good and I sure wish I could afford one. Local gun shop has them in stock for $1,050.00 cash.

Anyone here have one or shot one?

Is it a necked down 9mm? It comes with three 20 round mags.

I have owned one for about 5 years. There is no recoil, but the muzzle blast is simply astounding. It isn't a necked down 9mm, the base of the cartridge is much smaller. It's kinda fun to shoot, but it won't group like a K-38 or Model 41. About 4" @ 25 yards is all I can get out of my FiveSeven.

Just to have full disclosure, I'm not a square gun guy. They're ok for defensive use, but I much prefer to shoot my revolvers. I get it out and shoot it about once a year (usually when some acquaintance is dying to shoot one), but I shoot my K-38 every weekend.

The Armscor micro mag 22 TCM/9mm is starting to hit the market, It comes with both barrels. I haven't seen one yet, would like to hear from someone who has.

Is probably what you want. 50 rnd mag, no recoil and I have a green laser and a Cmore red dot that come together with the bullet's trajectory at about 35-40 yards. With 50 rnds, group size seems less relevant. I guess I can join the "Spray and Pray" faction now.

They are, in essence, a .22 Magnum semi-auto handgun- in the power and lightweight category- a much better, yet far more expensive arm than any semi-auto .22 Magnum handgun ever made- and the ammo is reloadable.

I do not have one of the 5.7 FN pistols, but I do have a T/C barrel in that caliber. It's a bit easier to load for than a .22 Hornet- it just isn't as finicky- but just as accurate- but I didn't need it other than I wanted it for all the brass I found on the range at one time- I never see the stuff strewn about any more.

Please. There is no way a 5.7 is "basically" a 22 Mag. Read the ballistics. Ammo is really not much more than other calibers. It is still around $20 box of fifty.

It is very tricky round to reload and the brass can only take a few reloadings. It is more than just a simple necked down case.

Look at the reviews and ballistics as well as reloading data.

Dr. Fackler has a VERY low opinion of the round.

Pretty much its only claim to fame (and design criterion) is the ability (with ammunition you can't buy here) to penetrate an '80s vintage NATO steel pot. I've read a lot of robbery and self-defense stories here, and in not one of them did the mugger, carjacker or school shooter wear a helmet.

As for me, it does nothing I need done in any way in which I want it done.

It's nothing more than a very expensive way to shoot rats at the dump.

It really is a lot like a .22 Magnum semi auto, and I stand by that- if you have owned an AMT Automag like I have, and have shot the FN pistol, I don't see much, if any difference in the way they shoot, other than the FN doesn't jam- neither pistol has any recoil to speak of. Shoot them, or one of the new Kel-tec magnums side by side and then tell me. Even with it's heavier bullet and higher velocity, they shoot and feel the same...perhaps the AMT might edge it out in accuracy, but certainly not reliability.

The 5.7 is easier to load...if for a single shot. I don't have a clue on reloading for the FN pistol- I guess the brass would wear out a lot faster in a jam-amatic- I've had no problems in my T/C. It isn't tricky at all compared with it's brothers the .218 bee, .22 hornet.

Wasn't the 5.7 round what was used to raid a Chinese embassy somewhere in South America?

It is a deadly accurate round with little recoil. Search the 5.7 forum.

Yes, they are sort of kinda close but there again not.
The ballistics here look the same but the 22 Mag is from a 24" barrel and the 5.7 is from a 10" barrel.

I have shot both and other than the "cool" factor if there is such a thing, I see no reason for the round for my personal use (besides the expense) But then I see not reason for the 22 Mag either.

I've had my 5.7 handgun since I bought it new for $750,
The gun is very light for an all-day full-sized carry gun & still holds
a 30rd mag. I have amused myself plinking at old shotgun shells at the range & this gun is very accurate & dependable.

That's always a catchy answer. They seem to sell a lot of them to folks without problems. You might as well say a 308 will do anything your 5.56 will do only better.

The OP was asking about the FN 5.7.

Do you have any 223, 5.56 hand guns (not like the Sig SBR?)

No, but there are certainly plenty of them around. I have no use for one... just as I have no use for an FN 5.7.
