I was looking at a Merwin Hulbert "pocket army" with a folding hammer spur at a gunshow, and thought it was a good idea. Merwins of course were a pretty spendy item "back in the day". Hopkins & Allens however wre at the other end of the price scale. And some H&A's also had folding hammer spurs.

What happend to the idea? It seems like such a good one. Hammer spur folds up, won't snag when pulled out of a pocket. SA of course is more accurate for most people. Got lots of time? Unfold the hammer spur, cock the revolver, fire SA.

It can't be that hard to mfg. if they could do it over 100 yrs ago why not now? Also I don't see any complex assembly (high labor cost) there, looks pretty simple just a hinge pin.

I like the *hidden* or enshrouded hammer spur of a Model 49 or 38. Nothing to snag and no separate manual of arms or even delay to get at it.

Merwin and Hulberts where made by Hopkins and Allen.
The folding hammer was a great consept. I haven't a clou why it stopped.

This is a Hopkins and Allen Mdl.XL .32 Double Action with the folding hammer I bought several years ago.I thought it was a neat little revolver although I've never shot it.
