Consider how things would be now for gun owners if those incompetent political hacks at CDC had been allowed to push their antigun agenda with a free hand. They were coming up with all sorts of data on how gun ownership was ruining the health system and that guns and The Second Amendment should be ended.Without the NRA leading the fight to prevent this from happening things might have quite different.

It is obvious they should have spent more time working on less politically correct things such as not coming up with ways to deal with Ebola for the last 39 years.

If you're a member of this forum or even read this forum and are not a member of the NRA you should be ashamed of yourself.

I don't agree with everything the NRA says, but I don't agree with everything anyone says.

If it wasn't for the NRA we wouldn't have this forum, the 2nd amendment, and probably the 1st amendment.

Think about that.

Now Join!

Rant off

I'm a little amazed at the reported number of gun owners in this country compared to the number of NRA members.
I don't recall the specific amounts but IIRC, they were very unbalanced, which I don't understand.
IMO, every gun owner should be pro-2A and join. Even non-gun owners that enjoy their civil liberties should be also.

I'll add to the JOIN the NRA and become a member of this Forum.

The only thing my Congress critter does that I approve of is support the 2nd Amendment. He has not supported new gun control measures, the rest of the time he is 85% with the President. That does not justify an "A" rating in my opinion. If I didn't have to pay Federal income tax on 85% of my Social Security Entitlement, I might be able to afford to buy another S&W revolver.

What has me wondering is the # of NRA members that really support the effort. This years Friends of NRA dinner we only had 210 attend (down form 297 last year). Our NRA rep informs us there are 8500 NRA members in our county, one of the highest concentrations in IL. There are way too many NRA members that pay an annual fee, and think that will do it all. They are sadly mistaken, the NRA needs much more, and the most important is "VOTING".

Active participation goes along with an NRA membership. I stay in constant contact with my Congressman and give him my thoughts on currents issues and not just those 2nd Amendmet related.
We've got a pivotal election coming up here in 3 weeks. The Left Wing Democrats while panic stricken are pulling out all financial stops to try an maintain a majority in the Senate. If they do it will be an unmitigated disaster for us.
Obama has already loaded the Supreme Court with two more liberal goons and If he gets to appoint another it could be curtains for the 2nd Amendment gains we're made.
For God's sake: GET OUT AND VOTE ON NOV. 4TH!
Jim

At the end of the day, if it wasn't for the NRA's choice to become the
respected ( not necessarily liked ), by the anti's, political influence it is.
You wouldn't have one legal firearm in your home, and be filling out a 4473 to buy a K-Bar, or a Randall. Having a firearm in your home is important to you? Support the NRA!

I'll start drawing full Social Security in September of next year. I'll pay tax on 85% of it too because I'm still working and will be until I'm at least 69. My income from work is more than enough for my fairly modest life-style, so I think that I'll use the SS put some $ into the grandkid's savings/college fund, and to support some causes that I believe in, and you can bet that one of those will be the NRA.

I don't agree with them 100% either, where it comes to guns and 2A I do not espouse the principle that we should enforce the gun laws we already have, I believe we should repeal them. But I do know that, but for the NRA, we'd have gun laws akin to Great Britain, no handguns, registration of everything else and severe restrictions on use. The forces of restriction were on-the-march and had momentum coming out of the 60s, but the NRA was able to stem and ultimately reverse that onslaught.

Not wanting to touch the "political third rail", I do however want to remind folks that about half a dozen BILLIONAIRES are pledging to double the NRA's outlay this election cycle. Most of the names you would recognize. When it comes to "power" I'm not so sure 5 million guys with $5 each beats 6 guys with $50-100 million that adds up to pocket change for them. If we get rolled over it'll change the game dramatically. If they "lose" it'll be "Aw shucks the crazy clingers terrorized the few sane voices." Joe

I am the dissenting opinion here. Just because an organization is large does not make it perfect, the last word, or the best option. Two pictures worth a thousand words.

They sold us out before and they will do it again. If you want to have fun ask the fund raiser calling you over and over what was the rational of the 1986 machine gun ban and what details do they personally recall....Oh yee of little memory...

Not in the NRA, and not ashamed of myself.

I deeply appreciate the work they do defending our 2nd amendment.

That being said, the reason I'm not a member is that they throw their money behind a candidate based on the sole issue of guns, no matter how wacky the person might be about everything else.

Perfect example is in the Colorado Senate race. They are backing a radical because hes pro gun, overlooking everything else he stands for.

Flame away.
