...and my question for the President. I am not a premium member of Bill OReilly, although I watch his show faithfully on the FOX network channel. However, if this question, or a similar one is asked, I'm certain that it will spill over into his regular tv programming.
Mr. President,
The sporting-goods stores are nearly devoid of ammunition for nearly all handgun calibers. Ammunition, when available, has doubled at gunshows. WalMart shelves are nearly empty for months. Components necessary for reloading ammo at home, such as powder and primers have doubled in price and now are gone from the shelves of nearly all sporting-goods stores.
Semiautomatic rifles and semiautomataic shotguns, used popularly for hunting, competitive paper-target and clay-target shooting, such as the AR-15, the Remington, Ruger and Browning semi-auto deer rifles, the Remington, Browning, Beretta and Benelli semi-auto shotguns (popular in skeet and trapshooting), have already seen significant increases in price due to fears of reemergence of the federal assault weapons ban which died in 2004, after congress failed to reenact it.
The American people who enjoy these hobbies are truly afraid of possible new or renewed legislation: outright bans and/or new taxation on these weapons, ammo, and/or reloading components, or any other restrictive action by you, your staff or Congress which would effectively prohibit or significantly reduce the public's ability to afford, to secure, and to enjoy their shooting sports in concert with their Second Amendment rights.
What bans, tax increases or legislation, if any, would you favor in this regard?
Thank you.
