For you morel mushroom hunters

Just finished dinner tonight with the family. The menu was A-1 injected venison tenderloin cooked at high heat for just 3-4 minutes on each side, depending how you like your steak cooked.
Then I had fresh morels that I picked Saturday dipped in mustard and rolled in flour and fried with butter and olive oil. Oh and some corn on the cob cooked in the husk on the grill. With a beer in hand. Life don't get much better than this. Of course my wife and daughters tore it up. I picked them and they ate them, but the girls want to go mushroom hunting this weekend and the oldest want to spring gobbler hunting, and trout fishing so looks like I have my hands full..... And couldn't be happier. Oh and I will post a pick of the shrooms for you guys to drool over.

Your morel recipe sounds interesting. I think I'll give it a try. Wegmans (food market) had morels for 40 bucks a pound on Saturday.:eek: They were dry looking. You can't beat them right off the manure pile...I mean ground!!!!:o

My wife and I went on a morel-antler-bluebird hunt on Sunday afternoon. Came up with an intact 8 point skull, but I think the morels are a bit early yet and very muddy in the low areas.

We get a very cool "flocking" of bluebirds in our woods in the spring before they disperse for their nests. It seems to only last a few days then most are off to greener pastures. We've seen it twice before. Not sure if we are too early or too late this year.

We'll be out hunting mushrooms and bird and wildlife watching again this weekend.:)
 
Most folks don't have any problems eating Morels, I have known a few people that had a "digestive" problem after eating them. After checking into this I found that it is true and there are a few folks that cannot eat them, just like folks that can't eat peanut butter. Always best to let someone who has never experienced eating them to just try a few and see if they get cramps or some other digestive type problem. I've always liked to soak them overnight in lightly salted water to bring out any larvae that may have taken up shop, but if they are fresh out of the ground I eat them right now, best time to try out a newbie, that way they wont have to watch you scarf down dinner while they have just a few.
