As I look at Personal Profiles of members I see that way too many are not members of the NRA. That really mystifies me. If you are one of those please join. If you are a member and did not check that box you should go back and modify your profile. This of course is my own opinion. The NRA does fantastic work to our benefit as gun owners.

Some non-NRA members may be far more active in the pro-gun cause than many NRA members. It's not your paying the dues that matters--it's what you do that matters.

People at the top of the corporate food chain tend to take home big bucks. I personally feel that while there are other, newer organizations supporting the 2nd Amendment, the NRA remains the heavy hitter and should be supported.

I became a life member when I couldn't afford it, paid it off in installments and I've never looked back. If we could grow the organization by perhaps another 5,000,000, presidential hopefuls would think twice before proposing yet more "common sense" gun laws.

But, it's up to the individual person. This isn't the place for arm-twisting.

If you got a better answer than the NRA, by all means go with them.
Fault finding with the only national organization which works to safeguard our gun rights is not helpful.

Explain to me as a New Yorker what "rights" they safeguarded me? If I give them my money, what will that get me? Please explain.

James

I'm sorry but you are so angry at your plight you are totally twisted into blaming the NRA for the problem. If you can't move out then grit your teeth and make the best of it. The situation in New York is the fault of all New Yorkers.

I am a life endowment member of the NRA and I have noticed they will NOT waste money trying to beat a dead horse. I support them in that decision. Even the NRA can't outspend Bloomberg.

Seems like a re-hash of old arguments....some have good points, some do not. I belong because they (NRA) has a lot of clout with legislators state and federal.....Are their tactics irritating sometimes you bet....Their direct calling seems to be the most irritating. My guess that is done by professional solicitors....They can be expensive and irritating..However the end sometimes justifies the means...Until someone comes up with a better origination I'll stick with the NRA.........Remember this in the old days no gun organization had to contend with concealed carry that was and is a real game changer......You can make a request to stay off the call list..It might take a couple of notifications but it will work....It still is the best game in town....My humble opinion...

I agree that we need the NRA and there is strength in numbers, and without their political clout things would look much different, so I am a member. But at the same time the NRA is the most annoying organization I belong to.
I've been a member for almost four decades, and for about as long I've been ticked off about the primitive, distorting, polemic, extremist and frequently plain false letters I keep getting and the sometimes outlandish claims the NRA uses to fire up its membership. Maybe simpler minds need this scaremongering to open their wallets and send them bigger checks, but I'm quite well informed and recognize when someone is just trying to terrorize me into a bigger donation.
So I have to hold my nose and remind myself that this is about something larger whenever I renew my membership. But I don't advertise my membership, don't have the sticker on my truck or put it in the forum header. We need the NRA, so I support them with my dues, but I don't have to like the way they do business.

James.....YOU get the NRA fighting in the courts in every state in the union to keep the anti gun people from taking your firearms!

That is a lot for only the price of a couple of boxes of ammunition each year! So chip in for the good of all gun owners and please don't be selfish!

Thank you for your support!
