I have wanted to try hunting with a handgun for awhile. I traded my 4566 for this 629 8 3/8 with a 2x leupold today. I shot it at 75yds sitting using shooting sticks for a rest and kept all my shoots on a pie plate.

In my mind that's a pretty fair approximation of a deer's vitals, so if you can replicate that afield--keep your skinning knife handy!

I have taken a number of deer with my Model 29 (8 3/8" barrel) and 2 power Leupold scope:

A 250 gr Keith bullet ahead of 24.0 grs of H110 will do the job.

Dale53, that is a sweet looking scope mount. I'm not familiar with that type, could you please describe what it is?

Thanks,
Lou

I love the pair of 629's, but I would swap the rings out for much lower versions.

75yds and on the killzone ...very solid.

I've also been shooting an 8 3/8" 629 this past year. Excellent hunters.
