I found an interesting little J frame in 32 H&R Magnum this morning and I'm not sure what to make of it. It's SS, chambered in 32 H&R Magnum, has a 2" bbl, fix sighted and appears to have combat style stocks with the S&W medallion on them. I looked at the model number and thought it said 36, but now that I'm home remembering and researching this, I know it can't be a model 36. What was I looking at? Is it a fairly rare piece? It's in about 90% + condition. What's a ballpark figure for value? The seller doesn't have a price on it yet. One thing I did find out is 32 H&R ammo seems to be hard to get and if found a bit pricey, but it may be neat to have it in the collection. Thanks for any help or insight.

Sounds more like a Model 631 if it is indeed stainless and 32 H&R. I think it came in a 2" fixed as well as a 4" adj sighted configuration. Small production, don't show up often. What's asking price?

If it is a Model 36, it would be a 38 Spl 5-shot, perhaps with some sort of nickel finish like Metalloy.

It's not a 36, 38 Special. It's a 32 Mag so I guess I miss-read it. The dealer just got it in and didn't get it in his books yet so he had yet to put a price on it. He said likely between 3 and 4 hundred.

They made a 631 with and without the "LadySmith" script, finish and special grips.

The LadySmith looks like this:

I believe the non-LadySmith marked guns bring a premium. I paid $550 OTD for mine with two boxes of Hornady 32 H&R Magnum hollow point ammo. I stole it for that price and if you can get it for less than $400 its felony larceny.

I'll be checking it again today and looking at it a bit closer. Should be a price on it by now so that'll come into play.

At a gun show a year or so ago, I picked up a 2" model 631 with the combat stocks just like the one you described. The seller was asking $1,250 and he told me that he might have it underpriced and I agreed with him. While I was very tempted, I already have a 4" 631 so I passed on the deal. Before I left the show, I went back for another look but it had been sold.

If you could get it for $400, you can afford a case or two of ammo and still come out way ahead.

Looked at it again this morning. It's a 631 2" SS 32 Magnum/Combat stocks without the "Ladysmith" on it's side. Still not out in the case, still no price...was told to check back Friday... and so I wait. Thanks for all your help folks.

If he prices it there, you'd best be at his doorstep when he opens tomorrow. Mail order .32 h&r is no problem to find. Pricey like all botique calibers, easy to reload.

Got the price... $600. Still a decent price but I'm out of the game. Located at Gander Outdoors Chambersburg, PA for anyone interested.

I'm reading this in Lynchburg, VA at 2:30. I think I can safely assume it's gone by now. Somebody got a super deal! :D
