FPC Bolt Face Peening Issue

Any other FPC owners noticing bolt face peening from the hammer around the firing pin area. I noticed mine has a fair amount after around 500 rounds or less. A you tube video discusses this [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E06eYEzC_4E[/ame]

Mine is not enough to implead function yet. I wonder how much dry firing contributes to this? I have done some but not a lot. Mostly after cleaning for function check.

I have a little over 2,000 rounds through my FPC. I, too, have noticed peening developing in a depression on the bolt around the firing pin. It hasn't presented a problem but it has made me wonder just how hard the bolt is.

The bolt in a 15/22 is struck by the hammer in the same place. My 15/22 has between 25K and 30K rounds and not a trace of peening.

Bolt replacement

As I have said my bolt is showing a fair amount of peening. I am wondering how long to wait to ask for a replacement. I Don't want to wait for a function issue to occur.

This has to be a known problem if they have a redesigned bolt ready to send out.

I just got off the phone from a conversation on the bolt peening with a CS rep at S&W. He seemed quite aware of and more than a little annoyed by the YouTube video. He assured me that the peening we're discussing is normal wear and tear and it's nothing to be concerned about.

Contrary to what's in the video, S&W is not sending out replacement bolts. Based on the very confident tone the CS rep projected, I'm not going to worry about it.

But, I will keep my eye on it . . .

Good to hear. Kind of where I am at . Not going t worry till it gets to where I feel it affects function or get more severe .

It is odd they changed the bolt design. Makes you wonder why

No surprise the CS department is gonna say that's normal.
But I also give credit to S&W for being quick to mod new designs when they see problems rather than wait til half the firearms they sold come back for repair. I'll keep an eye on mine for this issue but not gonna lose any sleep over it either. I would be curious to know if there's a new part # for this new bolt design.

My source says there was no change in bolt design and that the peening is cosmetic only. The hammer is powered by a very stout spring and hits the back of the bolt around the firing pin really hard and once the two surfaces “marry” together the bolt will not peen further. Essentially the peening is self limiting and you can just keep on shooting with no worries.
