I have an M&P 9 M1.0 that was manufactured in July 2103 according to an e-mail from S&W. This pistol does not have a manual safety or a magazine safety.

I wanted to confirm that I have the 1/8" sear spring, so I removed and disassembled the sear housing block assembly. It does have the 1/8" sear spring.

Due to my ineptitude, I had a time getting the housing back in the frame, but I got it back in without forcing anything.

Once the pistol was back together, I noticed that I had knocked out what I believe to be an opening for a manual safety on right hand side of the pistol, immediately aft of the serial number. I replaced the small plastic piece, but it will not stay put.

Can that piece be secured in place with some sort of adhesive, or should I leave well enough alone?

When the safety is absent, the frame apertures have asymmetric plugs that fill the gaps.

You'll need to remove the sear housing to put that plug back in as they push in from the inside. You can leave it out if you wish. Just watch out for dirt, debris, or other material that may enter though the gap. Just don't lose it.

Or, as already suggested, buy the parts to add the manual safety and take the other side out.
