Franchi O/U S/N location

My FIL just gave me a Franchi Brescia O/U 12 ga. It has an Al alloy receiver. I can't locat a serial number on the reciever. I did find a number stamped on the barrel assembly back near the breach on the under side. Anybody familiar with these things? He has had since the 80s and it was used when he got it so it's been around for a little while.

That's the S/N.

It should also be on the receiver, you need to open the action to see it.

I figured as much but wasn't sure. I did break it down but could find no SN on or in the reciever. I'll do it again and look closer.

Italian firearms laws define the barrel as the 'firearm',,,in the same way US defines the frame as the firearm.

It's quite possible a gun made there but not for export would not have a ser# on the frame.
A few other European nations follow or have followed the same interpretation in the past including Germany.

Another explanation is that the frame serial number is there,but is stamped into the metal frame and hidden by the stock wood.
The sides of the tangs or the back edge of the frame are a popular spot.
Removal of the butt stock is the only way to see the number.

That's not all that uncommon either on many early imports.

I'll just go with the s/n on the bbl assembly. I'm just needing it for my records, insurance etc. speaking of which what would be a good value to put on one of these?

Looks like a Falconet to me.

The 2013 SCOF states $550 for excellent condition.

That reminds me, I need a new catalog...
