Now I think I know the answer, but I always like to check with the experts. On my 15-22, does removing the end cap on the for end constitute a free floating for end? If all I want is a factory free floater I shouldn't need to change the barrel nut unless I want to add an aftermarket fore end. Is this correct? Thanks all. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything here.

The end cap isn't touching the barrel anyway...it's just aesthetic, or to keep leaves out in the woods. :)

With enough pressure on the rail, you can make it touch if you want. Either remove it, or Dremel it out a bit.
