Has anyone free floated the M&P 15-22 barrel? I have an MOE version rifle and would like to free float the barrel so that I can use a GI sling and not affect bullet impact.

I believe all you have to do to float the barrel is to take that cap off in the front. I've taken mine off and it doesn't seem to make a difference :)

I didn't see any improvement in accuracy either so just put the end cap back on. But in saying that when I had my sling attached to the forearm with the end plug on and packed the 15-22 on my a back on the atv it seemed to change POA almost every time. So I just took the sling off the forearm and put the gun in a hard case while transporting on the atv and it cured the change in POA from where it was when I had sighted it in at the range. Yes I did check to make sure the barrel nut was tight. YMMV.

If you do a search you might be able to find the old post on it.

Like everyone else said, just remove the cap. It has 4 tab clips and it pops right off.

To make it look a bit "nicer" you could also enlarge the cap hole 1/8th"-3/16th so you have more clearance around the barrel. Not much else you can do. It might help some, but it's not a tack-driver.
