Freedom Munitions American Steel

Anyone notice that it's really "sparky" ? The guys at my range said it's throwing sparks. I knew it was a bit sparky but they said it was going out 30 feet. They were a bit concerned it was tearing up the barrel. I haven't noticed any wear when cleaning it but was wondering if anyone else had seem the same thing. They use the same Xtreme bullets but the cases are brass plated steel and I assumed the sparking was because of the steel case.

If you attach a ground wire to the gun it wont spark....

I haven't shot it yet, but it's interesting to hear. I've been shooting the Freedom Munitions ammo for about 4 years or so, and have only had 1 issue with thousands of rounds put down range in 9mm and .223 / 5.56

I've been shooting FM for almost a year with not a single issue. I really like it. The American Steel performs well too except for the shower of sparks it throws. From what I've found so far it seems to be flakes of brass plating from the inside of the case. It's plated both outside and inside.

I've used a couple of boxes of the FM American Steel. It shot well & I didn't notice any unusual sparks. I used the ammo at a indoor range.

I have a hard time believing the sparks are unburned powder. It doesn't make sense. AFAIK Freedom uses the same powder in their brass cased loads. I'm planning giving them a call tomorrow about it and see what they say.

You mean anonymous people like you? And what makes you think I *didn't* research the subject myself? I posed the question to what I believe to be a trusted source of information.

With all due respect, my research indicated it was *not* unburned powder. I was merely saying I was skeptical since what I had found so far pointed away from the unburned powder and that I needed to confirm with FM anyway.

In talking with FM today they confirmed what I had heard. The powder is the same as they use in the brass cased loads and it is indeed flakes of brass coming from the inside of the case that are the source of the sparks.

I *highly* value the wealth of knowledge here including yourself, but I *do* reserve the right to formulate my own opinion based on reasonable research without the less than helpful comments. A simple explanation as to why you thought it is unburned powder would have been considerably more helpful.

My question was specific to Freedom Munitions American Steel. Like the subject of my post indicates.

As for others, I have no knowledge as I haven't used any and I would have no valid reason to question your response.

Please, I'm not questioning your knowledge. Far from it. However, the information that I had indicated something else hence my question specific to American Steel. It's different than other steel cased ammo. Brass plated both outside and inside. It behaves differently than what I expected from other steel cased ammo. I'm technical by nature and by profession so I want to know *why*.

Simple as that.
