This looking like a common question. I have a .38 S&W Police Special with 6" tapered barrel left to me by great uncle. Can't seem to get to the right thread to find out it's DOB. It has no model number stamped anywhere and the ser.# is C 352956. I've seen pictures of pre 1957's having more rounded grip handles. This one is squared off like Model 10 but again no model stamp.

Any ideas?

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

Your Great Uncle's revolver is probably a ".38 Military & Police," which was the predecessor of the Model 10. Model numbers began in about 1958 so as Robert said, yours came out earlier.

Post it in this forum "http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/" and the experts will be along to help you with its approximate age. Good photos of both sides will help those folks with suggesting its condition.
