I have gotten in the habit of carrying and shooting one of my old .38sp m&p's.It is a 4" early 20's missing a good bit of blue;but tight as new and all numbers match.A Wonder sight took care of that tiny notch in the rear, but the front sight is still hard to get a precise hold on.The old half round sight just fades away so that elavation can not be consistently held.I need a patridge or a bead front sight.I have toyed with the idea cutting the back half of the sight off,..but ?? Advice would be appreciated.

I'm having someone mill the front sight base to accept the replaceable pinned sight blades.

I'm in the process now of finding someone to do it for me.

Try Monty Mandarino - 406-250-3669 or 406-730-2370 .

He had converted several barrels for me, and is a great gunsmith. Feel free to use
my name as a reference.

Monty Mandarino...the guy that builds flintlock guns? That guy is awesome!

I think I have decided to make a sight and dovetail it on. That I can do myself, costing me nothing but elbow grease.

Wayne,

I got a couple of "hits" of folks that seemed to be happy to do sight work.

One is Alex at Ten Ring Precision
www.tenring.com

The other is Frank Glenn
www.glenncustom.com

Actually, now, I don't need the service, as I took care of it myself, but I'm glad to direct you to them.

Here's what I did today. I went ahead and made myself a dovetail front sight and put it in the barrel base. I build flintlock rifles, so I do this kind of thing all the time. Took me about 2 1/2 hours. If one is not inclined to this sort of thing, I would definitely recommend having someone else do it. I need to clean it up a bit more, and the blade is probably twice as high as it will end up being, but is substantially done. I will end up with it soldered in place so it durn sure will never come out. I have my favored silver face on the blade, which is a bit of silver braze put in the face of the blade, which was filed concave so that the silver would have somewhere to go.

yes, I know it's not pre-war, but the principle would be the same.

I kind of surprised myself at how well it has turned out.

I like it!That is what I need.I built three muzzleloaders so I can cut dovetails, but I always have done it by using handtools. So I would really have to get my karma right to try it on these old revolvers.

Stophel, that front sight really looks good.
