Front Sight Post Replacement

Can anyone recommend from experience a good front sight post replacement for my Sport? My eyesight isn't what it once was. I have added a little nail polish to the stock one, which helps, but would like a better solution for visibility. I looked at several, but the reviews are all over the place. The biggest complaints are either that they are too loose when installed or the sight (using fiber optic or whatever) still does not do a lot to increase the visibility. Before I drop the $$ I am hoping to get some real world input from the forum.

If your eyes are anything like mine, consider a 1-4x or 1-6x scope. The prices have come down quite a bit.

What he says.

When I shot competition, my rear sight had changeable peep sizes so I could tailor it for my eyes. It's a viable option, but expensive.

Now all my AR's have low power scopes or red dots. Much better precision.

For daytime use, three choices:

A scope with the power range suitable for an AR15 Sport. Probably something like a 1-4x, 2-7x or a 3-9x. I'm using the latter on a dedicated hunting rifle. Leupold makes a Mark AR series of scopes with the elevation turret marked for standard distances for 55 grainers. (Mine is specifically the 3-9x Mark AR.)

A red dot that will crank up the intensity for bright noon conditions without "blooming", that is, putting a fuzzy halo around the red dot. I refer an Eotech myself, as it is useful for daylight and low light conditions, and is parallax free (which many red dot sights are not).

Williams makes what they call an AR15 Firesight. It is a sight base that attaches vertically to the front of a regular AR15. It holds an exposed green fiberoptic rod that bends over the top, presenting a bright green dot to the shooter.
 
Pretty tough to recommend something that is going to look right to your eyes. For post replacements, KNS sells a variety pack from v notch to different size posts and ball ends.

For $25... might be worth a look...

 
Thank you for all of the input. I ordered the Blitzkrieg chevron luminescent sight. While I do see a scope of some type in my future (I don't see my eyes getting any better as I get older), I want to get the iron sights sorted out first. I figure I'm going to have the rifle forever, so I will take my time getting it set up one step at a time.
 
The Blitzkrieg arrived today. I hope to get it installed this weekend and then get it to the range to sight it in.
 
Finally had a chance to get to the range (life got in the way for awhile). Anyway, it took a little bit but I got it sited in. You do have to use the tool they send, as the standard AR site tool won't work.
The visibility is better than the stock post, but still not as good as I had hoped. The green insert doesn't stand out quite as much as I would have liked. I'll probably just leave it alone, as I plan to put an optic on it eventually.

I hate to say this, but it isn't necessarily your front sight that is a problem. When I was physically able to shoot service rifle matches, I had a similar problem with the sights on my AR15A2 Service Rifle. My options were limited by NRA/CMP rules. I used a National Match front sight post, and I replaced the rear sight "L" with a threaded "L" that had interchangeable inserts to vary the opening of the rear sight aperture. Sometimes, I had to change inserts depending on the light. To increase contrast between the front sight and the rear sight, I would use my carbide lamp to darken the front sight. If you don't want to dabble with a carbide lamp, G96 use to make an aerosol can of sight black that worked.

As an aside, with this method, I was able to earn my Master classification (consistent 94%+ match average) shooting position matches out to 600 yards. I never fired a match on a reduced course of fire. If I remember correctly, the rear sight that I used was marketed bu Armalite.
