This is the Civilian Model, according to Bob Best's book on this model, it would have been produced between December 1892 and June 1894 (pp. 81 - 83). It is in .38 Long Colt.

Serial number 10,06X.

The good news: According to Bob Best, "about 100 of the New Model revolver presented and delivered to various individuals and military personnel between December 1892 and May 1893." These 100, other than 5 in another serial number range, came generally from the first 100 numbers following 10,000. There is probably an above average chance that this shipped to an individual or military personnel, so it may well be worth lettering!

The not so good news: The grips contain the number '800' scratched within. A fairly tight fit, but obviously not original to the gun. Also, the cylinder locks tight when the hammer is pulled back, but when the hammer is down, the cylinder can rotate to the left. I know there were some design modifications at this time, and I don't know if this is correct for this period of firearm, or not.

As this is an ANTIQUE, pre-1899, this can ship to your doorstep directly. $395, including shipping, and Thank you for looking!

Also posted on Colt Forum, so first "I'll take it" based on date and time gets it.
