I'm new here, so hello everyone. I have an SD9VE. I purchased it about 2 months ago. I have put about 250 rounds through it and I've had a few problems with failure to feed and/or failure to eject. Also thought i had sight issues. But after 250 rounds it shoots great. My problem is if i put 16 rounds in my mag it will jam. Is this also a break in issue, or will it never operate well with 16 in the mag?

Thank you
Tom

i believe it was the 2nd but it might have been the 3rd or 4th. this last time out i only put 12 in and it shot flawlessly.

Howdy from the Lone Star State.

So far I haven't had any issues.
With any new pistol, it is always a good idea to strip it, clean and lube.
Including the mags.
Then load the mags fully and let them sit 4-6 days.
Really helps with eliminating feeding issues

I have had good luck resolving magazine issues by:
1. Disassemble magazine
2. Clean all parts with a solvent (I use CRC silicone)
3. Wipe DRY
4. Reassemble

Hello and welcome to the forum. Load and shoot 15 at a time the next trip see if it shoots good... And when your not shooting load up both mags with 16 and let em sit for about a week that should solve your issues. Congrats on your new gun I also have the sd9ve awesome gun

Both my SD9VE's have been 100% reliable.

One should not get their panties in a wad over a "jam".

It can be caused by anything from a dirty, or dry gun to limp wristing, to all of the above.

Hi Tom , first don't start taking anything apart just yet.
New gun ? then new mags , yes the spring is going to be stiff.
I had some what the same problem, that I am saying was not a problem.
Nothing wrong with running 12 rounds for a while , my SD9ve is now over 2 years old & I still only load 15.
What I would do if you like to keep it loaded put 12 your what ever works best in the gun , but the other mag load full & just let it sit, that is what I did. After a week or so change them out.
,
You do have yourself a great firearm there , Just give it & yourself some time & I think it will be just fine.
If you are like I was & want to play around with it try loading the mag with 12 & feel how clicks in , then load all 16 & do the same.
Now do it again & watch the slide with 16 it pushes my slide up some, also I could tell it was harder to rack.
welcome & post often:)

Thank you to all, I will take them apart and give them a cleaning. It sounds to me like there is some break in time, so that is a relief. As i said I've had other minor issues, but then they cleared up with time. I'm a new shooter and this is my first handgun. I'm pleased with it so far. so I will take all the advice and report back next time out.

I would not take the magazines apart, they can not be dirty already they just need some use.

Load mags with 16 rounds when not in use for the first few weeks.
At the range load 15 or less for a few outings. Mags will "break in"
after being left fully loaded for 2 - 3 weeks.

well this is my home defense gun, so i will load one with 12 and the other with 16. then alternate weekly.

I cleaned my mags too when I first got the gun to make sure that there is no oil/grease in them. As other mentioned before they need some time to break in. Once that's done you can load them with 16 rounds and will be able to have 16+1 waiting for duty.

I have around 5k through my SD9VE and the 16th round still gets a little tough so I just load 15 and load one in the chamber. Then stick the last one in. I load my SD40VE with 14 and have no problem. It feels a little like the 9mm mag should really be just a 15 round mag but you can actually load 16 into it. I have some 7 round 1911 mags that will fit 8 but it is tight like that.
