Fun is costing more these days.

Well, I finally went down to the old sporting good store to pick up
my yearly fishing license.

Being a old phart, I got the discount for my Nevada combination
fishing & hunting, which this year included upland.
The total for this was just $16.00.

I also like to fish in the California lakes and streams, near by for trout
and in a few lakes that have Kokanee Salmon, that are great fighters
and do well on the BBQ for a great meal that taste great.

This year with all the snow and cold weather, the lakes that I fish are still snowed in or froze over,
which means that this year will be a short term license, since it ends on Dec. 31st.

The cost to fish the "Freshwater" inland waters of the "Golden State" ,
and being a non-resident, comes to a grand total of,
$176.61.

If you fish a LOT........

....around here it may be worth it. Between the prices and rules on what you can catch when it's a durn racket. Any you have to buy a license twice a year because they only run certain months.

My hobby of going out every once and a while and fishing just aint worth it. I even took a charter with my son and every fish we caught went back in the water. We got tired of that and the captain took us to a wreck where we caught a few sharks and stingrays, that went back in, but it was more fun.

The cost of many outdoors endeavors has increased dramatically. Living near Alabama, the two states (Georgia) have kept out of state licensing fees fairly affordable for each other.

The days of walking down the road a piece to a nearby pond or stream with your Zebco 33, a few night crawlers, etc and coming home with a stringer full of pan sized bream are dwindling.

Deer hunting has almost become a corporate affair. With the lease, insurance, and other associated fees it has taken much of the fun out of it. If I get in a lease I feel like I must be out there as much as possible to try to get my money's worth.

I am fortunate enough to have one of the few stocked trout streams in my part of the state on the northeast side of my property. I have also taken a couple of whitetail near the same patch of woods.

In PA, you can get a Senior (over 65) hunting license that lasts till you die. It wasn't that much, maybe <$30, but I use it to use the handgun and long gun shooting ranges instead of the annual permit. I sold all my fishing equipment a few years back for around $25 to some girl who needed some for her son. All he had to do was replace all the dry-rotted line. Even my 25# test Musky trolling line on the big bait casting reel & rod was snapping in my hands. I had fun as a kid up at camp fishing every day. Stuff I took for granted.

My resident fishing/hunting/extra rod stamp/habitat/state waterfowl (still need to drop another $25 on federal) came out to $92. I'm getting my money's worth at least but I wouldn't sneeze at $16.

Every year I hunt my friend's family property in Alabama (deer/hogs). The cost of out of state hunting licenses has gotten so high that I'm only getting a 10 day tag next year (previously I'd gotten a yearly). If gas prices keep going up I may have to end even that.

Not if you are a non resident....and if you move out after you get it, it is void.

Shooting and hunting my only cost is ammo, haven't fished in maybe 30 years.

Thought about getting back into fishing but haven't made any real effort.

I regret not putting in a pond back in the 90's

We get a life time fishing and hunting license for free. The day I turned 65 I was at town hall the minute it opened, the girl said to me, boy you didn't waste any time getting here, I said at my age I don't have any time to waste.
