After many years my old Casio has given up the ghost. Perhaps a new battery would cure it but it is almost worn smooth and I'm thinking of treating myself to a new one. The G-Shock site has more versions than I can wade through. I need one with most of the usual functions but the more esoteric tricks aren't required.

Anyone recommend a good model that won't break the bank?

These watches are the most amazing watch ever made!!!! I'm on my 2nd one in 20 plus years I think!! Not sure on the exact timetable, but it's all I remember wearing for a long long time. I'm on my second one, only because I couldn't find a comfy watch band for my original one after the original band broke. It was still working when I retired it to the drawer 8 or 10 years ago... I may have to buy the new one.. just because...:)

I bought one of their Aviator styles, and found it to be waaay too complicated. There is such a thing as too complex. I put it away and went back to a Seiko kinetic style that has an extra hand for Z time. I am a firm believer in KISS, and the new Casio G Shocks violate that principle on every front.
 
I got one that is analog, but has a small digital readout for other time zones. The feature I like is that it is solar powered, so no battery worries. It also sets itself to the correct time every morning at both 3 am and 4 am using the atomic clock in Colorado. That feature only works within 600 miles of the atomic clock...but I'm within that radius. It was ~$100.00. Keeps great time.
 
My kids bought me a nice Casio Atomic Watch last Christmas that has become my favorite watch. I have found, unfortunately, that the band is the weak part of the watch, and they are difficult to find and expensive. The band is a part you have to order from the factory, and actually ended up costing more than the whole watch itself. I'm so fond of the watch, plus it was a gift from the kids, so I bucked up and paid for it. Now what happens when this band breaks - I'm gonna have to wing it.

Guys you hat need bands for your Casio.....go to amazon.com put in the model # of your Casio & need a band...!That saved me some $$!

I never could get a liking to Casio watches. For me it's the night light they use, which is really old school technology. It's a very small bulb that emits an ugly orange light in the corner. And most of the one's I have seen still use a digital display that uses block-like numbers.

Why not try a Timex instead? The Indiglo feature is a nicer standard and the last time I checked and compared next to a Casio, I noticed that most of the Timex had easier displays to read. They have a lot of good looking models even at your local Walmart.
 
I love Casio watches. I wear a Twin Sensor SGW-100 every day. No its not a G-Shock but for the past 4 years it has proven to be very durable. I haven't had to replace the battery yet and only replaced the watch band once (my fault it broke). I have found them for around $40-$80 on Amazon. If you like the G-Shocks you may want to check the Sensor line out.

I second what Sayoc01 says about watch bands and Amazon found the exact same band for the above mentioned watch on Amazon and saved a lot of money, plus got free shipping.

What do you consider breaking the bank? G-Shocks come in many flavors from $50-$800. The Solar Atomic G-Shocks start at just over $100 and IMHO you should serously consider one of these models, no batteries and you never have to set the time. I personally like the ones with the analog face over the digital ones, and I really like the new Aviation line.

I bought a M3405 Atomic G-Shock at Sam's this afternoon. Listed for $130 and they had it for $83. I'm still wading through the manual and I have to remember to point it toward Ft. Collins tonight.

I've never seen the like of different models that Casio offers. Literally hundreds! I wonder what their assembly line looks like??

If Sam Colt and Henry Ford had had access to a Chinese watch or running shoe factory when those pioneers were designing their assembly lines there's no telling what variety of handgun and automobile we would have now.:rolleyes:

Well I am close to Richmond, VA and my atomic G-Shock gets calibrated every night, a little after midnight. However, I did have to find a place in my house that received the Fort Collins signal. Turns out it is the left rear top of my wife's dresser. My G-Shock is my knock-around watch and also the ONLY watch I will wear at the range.
