Gander Mountain is opening a "Firearms Super Center" in a Columbus suburb (Reynoldsburg) this weekend. Only their second in the country it's a "guns-only" total remodel of a preexisting store that was a typical, "meh" store. They have the guys from Swamp Thing Dynasty Wars (or whatever that show is called) coming in for the grand opening so I imagine every fan within miles will be on hand. Think I'll let the dust settle before checking it out.

Keep in mind that one of the country's largest independents (the Richard Vance family) has an outdoor store 20 miles east of there (Buckeye Outdoors) and a guns only store (Vance's -a LEO armorer) 15 miles west of there. In addition, Cabela's is opening about 20 miles Northwest of there on March 7 and I'm hoping to be the beneficiary of some serious price wars!

Oh and let us not forget the Fin Feather and Fur is located only an hour North of the new Cabela's!

Yes Virginia, the Second Amendment is alive and well in Ohio!:D

In WI they did this over a year ago, called it Gunworld. They were a few miles from Cabelas and Fleet Farm, so that may have had something to do with it.

I just don't have like Gander Mtn for guns. They do have a huge selection. But they are over priced. Plus they put the used long guns behind the counter, you used to be able to look at the used stuff.

I hate browsing for guns, when I can't read the price or info.

Also I was surprised that they do not sell reloading supplies. Cabelas 5 miles away has reloading supplies and you can pick up all the used long guns.

I usually leave the place, after saying Really??

We're going to the funny bone there in easton this weekend and I wanted to stop at gander on the way up. They have some massive ammo sale going on according to the ad, but do they have any left? I did hear a cabelas was being built, where is it exactly?

Cabela's is/will be, on the north edge of Columbus. Just off I-71 at the Gemini Exit (kind of the second half of Polaris) It is a small Cabela's, about half the size of Wheeling. There is a worthless Dick's less than a mile away, maybe they will do something interesting or just go away.

I got a big flyer from GM in the mail on Friday, with all kinds of ammo ads in it. I went over there on Saturday and they didn't have any of that stuff. All the gun prices were just the regular prices, not on sale.

Gander just did something similar here. It's not a guns only store, but they greatly increased the floor and counter space for guns. Most of their ammo is too high as are most of the guns. Occassional sales get the prices back to normal. They are going to have another big three day used gun sale starting Friday. You can negotiate prices at this one and I found some serious good deals at the last one back in December. Now is a good time to buy winter clothes there.

Im less than an hour away from gander mountain, vance, buckeye outdoors, and woodburys. Wheeling is about an hour or so and the new cabela's would be about the same. We have a dunhams and an mc sports here in town, mc just started selling guns recently. They have a bunch of pistol ammo, just missing 40sw and 9mm is all. They have ZERO of either.

My local gander is getting a make over, going from 1100 firearms to 8000 available (if the current gun run ever slows down that is). We also have a smaller Cabela's opening right down the road. It will be interesting to see how that affects prices!

Just watch those 'flyers' for the 'loss leader' deals on the occasional firearm. Some big box stores will match a like item with another store within an hours drive. The flyer doesn't have to be from the store you visit.

I bought a new S&W 'J' frame a handful of years back with that deal. I would of drove to the further store, the closer one matched the price though, over $70 off.

Our GM ran an ammo sale here about a week ago. They said there was over a 150 people in line an hr before they opened. All ammo was gone in 10 mins. Funny thing is the sale runs to the end of the month.

Hayden.

The new Cabela's on Gemini Parkway opens on March 7.

We finally got a Scheel's here last year. Prices are a tad bit up, but considering it's only competition is Gander Mtn, if you price shop you won't be disappointed.

I stopped in the Reynoldsburg store last night on the way to Easton, holy s%&$ that place was packed lol. Ive never seen so many guns and ammo in my life. They had skids of 9mm and 223/556 out and it was going fast. I was told they sold out of all 22lr within hours of the place opening, and that was over 100k rounds from what the guy said. They were getting low on 40sw when I snagged a few boxes, but had 50 or more boxes left on that table. I like the selection and will be back after the mayhem is done to check if the prices stay the same.
