Heard last night Gary Carter died of brain cancer after learning of the disease last May. Heck of a ballplayer for 19 years and making the Hall of Fame a couple of years ago. As good as he was on the ball field, I understand he was a better husband, father and gentleman.

RIP

Yes, Carter was a fine ball player and by all accounts, a fine man. One of the few sports figures worthy of being called a role model.

Gary and I went to the same high school (Sunny Hills in Fullerton, CA); he the class of 1972, me the class of 1970. Just a terrific three sport athlete (football, basketball, and baseball), as was his brother, Gordon. Always tragic when someone passes on at such a young age.

A player that had class, character and ability, which has slowly disappeared in today's world. May he RIP.

Red Sox Nation and Met fans will always remember Gary.

One of his peers called him a bigger and faster version of Pete Rose when he was playing. That's quite a compliment from guys who played the game with him. RIP Gary.

The Kid always had a big grin on his face and he meant it. He was a heck of a catcher (the most difficult position to play) and by all accounts, a good man as well. He wasn't a big hitter but he did make one big single in the sixth game of the '86 Series. He was the first player inducted into the Hall of Fame wearing a Montreal Expo's cap.

His death has oddly affected me. I am usually immune to the tribulations of the famous but I am truly saddened by his death. I pray for his family to have strength during this time of mourning.

Rest in peace Kid.

One of the "Good Guys", he always cared about winning, and his team.
Was'nt about self glorification or standing out to him. Truly was a class
gentleman.
