Gas can spouts

All of the plungers on my new style gas cans seem to break pretty quickly, guess I'm too hard on them. I found a 16ga shotgun casing is a slip fit over the can spout. As a temporary fix until I can get a replacement spout from the manufacturer, of course.

I recently bought a 1-gallon gas can for my pressure washer. I could NOT figure out how to get gas to come out of it! A neighbor was watching, thankfully, and came to my rescue. He said don't feel bad, he had the same problem and had to be shown also.

You put the spout in the opening, catch a little hook on the edge, then push down. That allows gas to flow. I never would have figured that out on my own!

Along with a good spout, a vent is also important. A couple of my cans had the horrible ventless spout that takes forever to pour fuel from, so I fixed them.

If you have a good flat spot on your can, drill a 1/2" hole and shove one of these in there.

If the push-in vent won't work, a great option is a metal tire valve stem.
Drill the appropriate sized hole & install one of these. Just tighten the jam nut and remove the valve core. Now you have a permanent vent - just take the cap off to open the vent.

So glad I'm not alone in my frustrations over gas cans. Diesel same. Plastic garbage is expensive. Paid 38$ for race track can that has a vent cap. I have decided in near future to send a letter to EPA copy to White House. Remove all of these crazy gas container regulations let us live in piece. I'm currently shopping for diesel transfer fuel tank for tractor. Anything but current containers.

I use a siphon that I shake to activate. I rest the gas can on a garbage can
Put the other end in the tank . Shake the end of the siphon in the gas can until it starts its action. The top is open on the gas can so it flows nicely
No spills. No holding the can.

Living in a storm prone area I keep a lot of gas on hand. I've got several old cans with a usable spout. On the newer cans I just use the spout to seal the can. With these, I take the spout off and pour it into a large funnel. It's faster, more convenient, and spill less fuel. I do the same with diesel for the tractor. The newer spouts are already torn up anyway. The government tries to save us from ourselves when they don't need to. Just like with gun control. Another gripe is the newer cans cost over twice the amount of the older ones and then wind up breaking. Some egghead is sitting in a government office somewhere getting paid $120,000 a year with our money trying to justify his existence by making us mad with things that cost more and don't work. Kinda like some taxes. Drain the swamp and bring back God and common sense.

I got sick and tired of waiting for the trickle from the super trick nozzles of Kalifornia Kompliant gas cans, aching arms and the dribbles and spills that ate up my asphalt driveway.
I went shopping on eBay.
I now own 6 old time 5 gallon pre-ban Blitz vented red plastic cans with a rigid nozzle (the flex kind always flip and pop out of the gas tank). The stiff nozzle helps me support the can while pouring too. They are a joy to use - no spills, flow fast, seal tight when not in use.
Every August (right before hurricane season), I ride about 40 miles out in the country where I get non-ethanol gas, fill all the cans, treat them with Stabil, and have used them over the past six or seven years to power my lawn equipment and my generator for storm and ice power outages. The following August, I feed the gas into my cars and refill with fresh gas.

For a metal gas can the following is the real deal. I have had one now for over a year with no problems.

Don't ya just love how all the Politicians pass Gas Can laws and more than likely have absolutely no idea about them. I highly doubt they mow their own lawns, plow their own snow or cut down their own trees and therefore have no idea how really bad these "environmentally friendly" NOT the new spouts and cans really are.

Sort of like Gun Control!

Like everything uncle gets involved in the epa has managed to take a simple time proven working item IE a gas can and rendered them totally useless.

IMO of a man or woman is not smart enough to operate a simple gas container with out an abundance of “safety” features added by uncle for their protection well let Darwin do his work.

I do find these handy for refueling the tractor. Place it up on the tank insert the tube in tank and squeeze the handle. Actually work well.
