Couple of years ago I bought 4+ burner Char-Broil gas grill, big enough to grill a cow. Too many parts to remove for a good cleaning - much too big for just two people. I just sold it (lost my shirt on the deal) and now I'm looking for something smaller and simpler. In my search I came across this "Holland" grill (link bellow), couldn't be simpler - any one has one of these, and what do you think about it? Thanks for your comments.

Looks like a good grill to me, I have been using gas for the last 20 plus years, just two of us so do not need a big grill, just takes some time to figure out the hot spots. I know charcoal gives a little better flavor but gas is so much more convenient

Oldfella;
My old Ducane Gas Grill bit the dust earlier this year. I looked at many grills unfortunately I did not see the Holland.
I ended up buying the Weber E 310, it is working out well for me. I like and use a side burner so I added one for frying and long cooking it keeps the heat out of the house.
Roger.

We sell these at work and I've been thinking they look pretty good for under $300

Probably more utility than quality, but I like the option to use gas or charcoal (or both at the same time), you can add a smoker box also. The reviews I have seen have been pretty good. I would guess the quality of parts is not as good as Holland though.

When I think about it though, I would probably rather buy a nice gas grill and a separate charcoal smoker/grill. You can always put wet wood chips in a foil pack, poke it full of holes and throw it on your gas grill for some extra flavor.

For the past 2 years since I moved to AZ I have only been using a little "son of hibachi" charcoal grill. I love the flavor but do miss the convenience of gas.

I'm a Weber guy. Have a Genesis that I spent $400 on a few years ago. Works perfectly for my better half and me. Easy to clean and great grilling!

Good luck!

I've never seen nor knew of that Holland product Pete? From it's description it sure sounds good! I'm currently running what was at the time, the last iteration of Weber's Genesis "Silver". Two interior burners (stainless), no side burners. Stainless lower storage, porcelain grid's, aluminum body. It's 4 years old now and except for the ignitor (always a problem in Seattle's climate) trouble free. It replaced a nearly identical one 4 years back after a neighbors 75' Douglas Fir drove it through my deck like a railroad spike?

Looks very interesting. Be sure you can get replacement parts if needed.

I go for the cheap grills and when they're shot, they're dumped. I kept my $99 Festiva 7 years and through one move and one burner replacement, and then I left it by the curb in Virginia for trash pickup prior to the move to PA but the neighbor beat them to it.

Now I have a $140 Home Depot Char-broil because I wanted cast iron grill plates. It's on its third summer and hanging in there, although the ignitor seems to be going.

We have had a Weber Spirit for 3 years and it's been the best gas grill for us - added the optional caste irons grates. Also Weber kettles for charcoal grilling are hard to beat.

I have the Holland Tradition and like it very much. I use the grill year round. The fact that it will never flare up is why I bought the grill, so far it has not. "If your looking your not cooking".

Hibatchi

Pete-not a gas grill but I am on my second Lodge Hibatchi. Perfect for cooking for two and you can use it with around 15 pieces of charcol. Half the fun is lighting the fire and playing with it (drinking a coouple of beers fits in nicely too). After a storm if I'm lucky, I'll pick up some little pecan branches in the back yard and use them for smoke.. Something about watching a fire calms one down after a stressful day.

Another Weber owner here.
I bought the Summit 450. It's a big grill for just two people, but it's also usefull when having guests over. Four main burners, a burner for a smoker box, a radiant burner and a side burner. The large size also makes it easy to roast a chicken on the rotisserie using indirect heat. Thermometer built in to the lid, and a light on the handle that turns on when the lid is opened, and off when the lid is closed.
Easy to clean, and Weber has a rep for excellent customer service.
Mine is set up for natural gas, so no more jerking around with propane tanks.
It was pricey at about $1500, but I'm very pleased with it.

I just heard a story of someone who had a natural gas-fed grill and after the first big snowfall, he looked outside to see no snow on his grill: He had forgotten to turn it off after the last cookout 3 months ago.

We were going to hook our grill up to the fireplace propane tank but Eastern Propane wanted $250 to do so, so we didn't bother.

Who's this guy you are talking about who has stressful days?

I'm a charcoal guy but always thinking about getting a little gas grill just for firing up dogs and burgers. Any solid chunks of meat deserve the charcoal.

Another vote for Weber. 3 burner, rotisserie and smoke box, can't beat it. Turns on and ready in 7 minutes. Easy clean and maintenance. Smoke box gives back the flavor that gas takes away and the rotisserie is awsome!

That guy had one Hell of a "pilot light" out on his deck Barb? YIKES!
Can you imagine what his gas bill must have looked like?

I ended up buying an updated version of the same Char-Broil Commercial Series model I sold. This unit, while not the best, cost $216 less than the Holland Grill. The main issues I had with my two-year old grill I sold were corrected in this new model: The cast iron grate, as well as the burner cover plates are now ceramic coated; and the burners are now being held by stainless steel carter pins rather than plain screws which rust and are difficult or impossible to remove after couple of years of use. In addition, this unit is rated at 50,000 BTU, while the Holland Grill is 19,500. Properly cared for it should last me for about three years without having to replace the burners, which are thin stainless steel. Thanks every one for your input.

Grills

I'm a Weber guy.
I've heard that the Holland is slow. Only heard that once--did the guy know what he was doing--don't know.
I'm also thinking next of going back to charcoal, as a second grill; there's not a better way to do a turkey. And there's still a spot on the deck for a smoker...hhhhmmmm,wife's out of town, an hour left 'till stores close.....
