Gas station courtesy? (Yes, this will be a rant.)

When you go to the gas station, get your gas and leave. This is not a difficult concept.

If it isn't obvious, I get bugged when people fill up their vehicles and then don't leave. One day I was behind a guy who filled up on gas and only then started washing his windows. Why not move first, then wash your windows?

That's annoying, but yesterday I lost it.

I pull into a station that has two pumps at each island. There is a truck at one pump in front of the one I pull up to. It looks like he's done, but I don't wait for him to leave and just use the pump behind him. He hasn't pulled far enough forward though and the hose will just barely reach my filler. While I'm filling my truck, I notice that he's not pumping any fuel; he must have finished before I got there. I finish and he's still there. I start my truck and he still hasn't moved so, I tap my horn, no response from him at all. I see the passenger front door open and then the rear passenger door open, apparently his wife needed to do something in the back. I'm getting more irritated.

The car in the island next to us leaves which makes room for me to go around. As I get parallel to his truck I see why they haven't moved, they're eating lunch! Seriously?! You're blocking access to the pumps so you can eat your lunch??? As politely as I can, I tell them they should have moved. There's a parking space not 30' directly in front of them. Upon reflection, it probably wasn't that polite.

Rastoff,

Let me say...............I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND.

Not sure what has happened in this world, but that would have totally twisted my tail also.

If you're done, move on.

We have one fuel point for our patrol cars. We share it with ALL county vehicles. It drives me insane when a social services employee or another deputy wants to sit there, clean the car out, chit chat, or do anything other than get gas at the pump.

I have been involved in more than one intense "discussion" about why you need to go do your business somewhere other than the pumps.

Was at local Costco just this week, the fueling station has an exit lane back into the parking lot area. Mind you, this was at 8 a.m. and the Costco wasn't open for business yet. This "gentleman" decided to park his big truck in the exit aisle and was having a conversation on his cell phone, oblivious that he was blocking a single lane exit from the pumps. The attendant was behind a pillar and didn't see the "gentleman" blocking the exit. I called him over and pointed out the fellow. He told me "thanks" and approached Mr. Cell phone and told him to move his truck...one acre of empty parking spots and he chose to be an inconsiderate jerk. Or entitled. Or, just clueless in Chico. I guess this could be considered as a failure of situational awareness.

My truck takes diesel and the pump which dispenses diesel also has a gas nozzle too. A bimbo fills her car with gas and gets in. I think she is going to drive away so I can use the diesel pump. Boy was I wrong. Without moving her car, she proceeds to start texting on her cell phone. I wait for a minute or two and tap my horn to try to get her to move. I get the single finger salute. There is another diesel pump on the other side of the island so I move over to the other side and fill my truck. When I drive away, she is still sitting there blocking the pumps and texting away.

NO SHORTAGE ON STUPID OR INCONSIDERATE FOLKS.

One of my fav's, park in the middle of 2 pumps (blocking both), then go shopping with no intention of gassing up at all. Wifey says she won't bail me out anymore, & she means it, so I try and keep my big mouth shut. ;) In todays wonderful world of wacko's, it might be safer to disconnect your horn. AS IF someone will snap out of their fog, move their car, and give you an I'M SORRY WAVE.

If I didn't know any better I would have though I had started this thread. I hate rude people. Good caring people in public can often be " fill in the blank" when they get behind the wheel of automobiles. I pulled into a local station and noticed a car in front of the pumps with no hose. I filled my truck and was leaving and he was just then getting out of his car and he started to check under the hood. I left and went to a car wash for a quick bath. When done I saw him still in front of the pumps. My other peeve is slow people. I live in the mountains with 2 lane roads and few passing places. Some rude person then drives 20 mph under the speed limit. He is in no hurry but he sure isn't going to pull over.

Nothing much bothers me anymore. I am always courteous to others even if it isn't reciprocal.

I refuse to let anyone's rudeness or inconsideration steal what joy I have left.
Rusty, I want to be you. I am usually courteous because that's how I was brought up. I've learned that if you're nice, even to the not nice, life is generally brighter. I don't even like the fact that I ranted here, but better here than in someone's face so, I did it. Get it out of my system and then I can be nice out in the world.

I still want to be you.

I live in the mountains too. Yes, I understand.

Doesn't it all start with the parents? We are all born pure.

Being retired, I sometimes drive big rig for entertainment/hobby. Similar disrespect occurs at truck stop fuel islands. Some big rig drivers like to block a fuel island while they eat and/or shower. What’s more, diesel RVs or pickups that unnecessarily impede big trucks that are on strict schedules and have valuable hours of service that are being burned, when they often have other options. Fuel islands are no place to eat lunch, check your septic system, feed your horses, etc.

Blocking the gas pump thing doesn't bother me too bad. But driving at or below the speed limit in the left lane of a four lane road/highway is inconsiderate and I truly believe half the people who do it because "I'm a 'Merican and it's my God given right" to do so. The other half who do it are just clueless.

Not to hijack the thread but this is right up there with people who have a conversation in the middle of a hallway as people try to get around them. Worse yet the same idiots having the same meeting but if the hall wasn't bad enough decide to do it in the doorway. I have been know to "accidentally" lightly shoulder checked a few as I tried to pass, they still don't get a clue.
