Gen 1 NIB 9mm Shield Value??

Quick look

A quick look on the famous auction site show new old stock for sale with a price range for the 1.0 Shield NIB from $279 to $399. However, a search of ended auctions show new old stock sold between $250-$300.

I doubt that there is any collectability factor which would affect the price of a Shield, they're a dime a dozen.

I'm not knocking the gen 1 Shield, it's just that the newer Shield models have steadily made improvement that the older versions don't have and most people would choose to pay for the newer version even if it cost a bit more.

It's not like an original Colt Python vs the 2020 version. The Shield is a nice gun, but really nothing special. When it comes to a Shield being NIB vs used, I would expect maybe a few dollar extra for it's condition, but not so much that it would be in the same area as a newer Shield.

MSRP for the Gen 2 is $505.00 but you probably already know that.

Gunbroker has a 1.0 listed with starting bid of $329.00 with no takers so far. They have the Bug Out Bundle Bag Combo which includes 5 magazines (actually meaning three extra magazines), bag and first aid kit with buy it now price of $431.97.

We (wife, daughter, myself) prefer the 1.0 but I agree that the 1.0 version is being ignored. $300.00 seems to be top price at the moment.

Did it, at least, come with the original box, 2 magazines, papers and spent case?

S&W was blowing Shields 1.0s out for about $300 a few years back.

I remember them being as low as $200 after rebate just before Christmas one year (prior to the dem-panic!)... Might have been right as the 2.0 was released?

Cheers!

P.S. Probably should have picked up a couple, but WHO KNOWS?

Plus they had rebates

For the OP the "value" depends on if he is selling it privately or to a gun/pawn shop which will not pay very much.

If I saw a new 1.0 and a new 2.0 next to each other at the store and the 1.0 was 300 vs probably 429ish for the 2.0, I would absolutely buy the 1.0. I would tell your friend to sell it privately and be patient and take no less than 250 for it.

I prefer the model without the thumb safety. I gave my daughter one that has the safety as her semi-autos have that feature. Actually this thread has me wanting to get another one as “2 is 1 and 1 is None”.

I sold my Gen 1 to a close buddy for $280 and feel he got a good deal. It included two extra magazines one of each capacity. It also was basically new in the box with all paperwork. It's a long story but I ended up with a Shield Plus or else I would have never sold it.
