Hey guys, I was sitting around last night and was wondering a few things about the .22lr out of my 15-22 vs. my Ruger 10/22 so forth and so on.

The state range I shoot at has a 'pistol' side and a rifle side and we generally stick on the 50 yard range. Only move over to the longer range when we break out the big brother (S&W M&P15).

Just some of my random thoughts while I was day dreaming were (since I don't have any quality range time with my 15-22 yet, just now got my scope mounted etc.) are how accurate compared to the 10/22 will the 15-22 be at the 50 yard range.

Have any of you done any shoot comparisons? If so, what size groups were you able to manage at the 50 yard mark? I know the 15-22 isn't meant to be a 'nail driver' but I'm just curious if any of you have done serious group shooting w/ it.

And in principal I know that the 10/22 is going to be more accurate than the 15-22.

I've also wondered a lot about what I've read as far as bolt action .22lr rifles, say a CZ bolt action or any brand really are more accurate than a semi-automatic rifle. Is that true with any type of rifle regardless of the round? Are bolt action guns always more accurate than a semi-auto?

Anyway, I know it's just random ramblings... but you know how the mind is when the wife is watching American Idol and you're just sitting there lol.

Take a trip over to "Rimfire Central" they have a good and active CZ forum. To me for "****s and giggles".......a

15-22 = AR15 and

a Scoped CZ 452s in .22lr (or .22mag.) American, FS or Trainer = a .22 Remington 700 sniper.

My 15-22 is a fun/ trainer out to 50-75yds; my CZs will shoot .25-.4 all day at 50yds and 1-1.5- 2 inch groups at 100yds......... if I do my part.

I can only shoot 4" groups or so with my Ruger by hand at 50yds, maybe because its a mark2 and I should try both hands:).

I have seen some pretty impressive pics of groups with a 15-22 that I believe would come close to matching a 10/22. It's funny you ask about the semi vs bolt accuracy question as I just asked my dad that the other day because I was curious. He really wasn't sure so I still want to know, is it the shooter or the gun? Can someone have the same accuracy with either?

It has been my experience [50 plus years of shooting] accuracy with the 22lr is in this order; a single shot bolt action rifle, then a magizine feed bolt action, then a lever and last a semiauto this has been the case for me, others opinions may vary, pghrich

Well I own both . A Ruger 10/22 and a Smith & Wesson 15-22. With open sights I am more accurate with the Smith.

I'm gonna agree with bolt actions being more accurate, for whatever reason. But I'm also gonna say, if you know what you're doing with both firearms, they can be the same. I can put two holes on top of each other with the 15-22, now if I grab a bolt, I can't shoot it if my life depended on it.

I currently have three .22 LR rifles, a Ruger 77/22, a Ruger 10/22 and my M&P15-22. I have listed them in order of accuracy.

The 77/22's action was overhauled by Jim Clark probably 20 years ago, but has the factory barrel. Accuracy is 1.5 MOA with a 4-16x40 power scope.

The 10/22 also has the factory barrel and a clark FCG. Accuracy is 2-2.5 MOA with a 4-16x40 power scope.

The 15-22 has a Jard 2.5 lb FCG and I get about 3 MOA with a 3-9x32 scope.

I'm satisfied, for my shooting, with the performance of all three.

Probably the most accurate .22 semi-auto is the Volquartsen, which is built on the 10/22 platform. Not cheap, by any means, but you get what you pay for, if top-notch accuracy is your ultimate goal.
