Phil Quigley provided a make over for this previously mistreated 3.5" Registered Magnum. This RM is 5334. It was ordered and shipped in September 1939 by one General L. F. Guerre, the first Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police.
Somewhere along the way, RM5334 was subjected to a lot of moisture. Not too uncommon in the Baton Rouge area. The Magnum suffered some major corrosion injuries and subsequent over sanding and buffing treatment. All of this was then covered with a brushed hard chrome finish.
Mr Quigley had his hands full with flattening and shaping the 357 back into shape. Unfortunately, the cylinder was unable to be brought up to the same standard as the rest of the gun, so a replacement was used. Many thanks to several of our community members for assistance with replacement parts. Along with the cylinder, replacement hammer, trigger, rear sight blade, giraffe bone stocks, various screws and pins were obtained and used to finish the pre war beauty. I have all the salvaged original parts to stay with RM5334.
I do not know if my actions were right or wrong in commissioning such a job on the short barreled duty gun, but I feel that it is a better representation of what General Guerre's Registered Magnum deserved.
