I have a 1500 watt generator and lost the manual in a move. I'd like to change the oil and can't remember what is recommended. Anybody know the best weight and type?
By type I mean petroleum based or synthetic, detergent or non det., straight weight or like a 10w whatever

Your gonna need a filter also. Might help if you said what brand generator and what engine manufacture. Like others said go to engine manufacturers website and download the manual.

It's a Coleman 1850, 1500w continuous. There is no filter, small generator. That's why I like to keep the oil changed, but I haven't used it in a couple of years since we got a Generac for the house.
I'll check that website, thanks. I also see an 800 number on it so I should be able to figure it out now.

10W30 is the only oil I've ever seen specified on ANY type or brand small generator.

I have a 10KW Generac and I use Amsoil 10W30 Synthetic. I ran it about 20 hours a day for 10 days straight last year when Sandy hit us as it was quite cold here (in the 30's and we had snow). It ran flawlessly and still does. I run it about 15 minutes every two weeks just to exercise the generator itself as Generac suggests.

10 W 30 should do it.

Thanks! That info did the trick.
To quote Toby Keith " I love this place "

Aloha,

I use the same synthetic oil in my generators as I do in my vehicles.

I use Mobil 1 Super synthetic of the appropriate weight.

My generator is run at the beginning of the month for 15 minutes.
