My remote on my Genie garage door opener just started messing up. It will open the door but will not close it. I changed to a top notch battery, no luck. Bought a new remote and still will not close the door. Any ideas ? Hoping there's some Genie experts here. Thanks !!

i had the same problem worked on it for 2 days, have to buy a new one call the customer service they will hellp out

If you can change the code with the dip switches in the CEILING MOUNTED UNIT (you usually have to remove the light cover to see them) and the REMOTE (inside by siding the cover down) to whatever you changed the new code to be, try that first before going the NEW REMOTE Route.

Could be something mechanical in the mechanism that opens/closes the door, a circumstance in which it opens easily but is not working to close the door in spite of the signal being sent.

Does it work with the pushbutton on the wall?

You may need a new control board, there are quite a few on eBay, but you will need to know the numbers off of yours.

Do you have the safety eyes down by the bottom of the door.

I hit one with the trash can knocking it out of alignment and the door will not close. It will still open

I think if the light is flashing the beam is broken and stops the door. If the red light is on it should be OK.

For what ever reason the control needs the eye can cannot be bypassed easily.

If the remote does not open or close the door, you might need to reset the rolling code in the remote. I for get the ins and outs, but you need to press a button in the opener then do something with the remote.

I gogled and found a suggestion to check the safety beams. I had looked at those but figured since the red light was on, it was ok, but I cleaned the lenses and repositioned the boxes and it seems to be working. Thanks for all the advice. Now, I have to buy a new car cause I have a spare remote, LOL !!
