I have been getting MYSELF a birthday gift each year that somehow relates to the #year of that birthday. It started @ 45 with a Ultimate Stainless Colt Officer in .45 ACP. The best yet (and still champ) was #60 (shipped May ’79) with a factory mirror polished Model 60 that got 75% coverage engraving by Wayne D’Angelo.
For #66 (Nov. 13) I am polishing a P&R M66 2.5” (shipped April ’80) that I found a few years ago and had a pair of Sambar Stag stocks made for it. After many weeks the stocks are done and will be shipped to me next week fro CA. Here is the 66 after a preliminary going over with Mother’s Polish…

I also do a b-day gun each year. As far as Mothers goes STOP!!!!!
Polishing a gun does NOT increase it's value, gust the opposite. Yours isn't too 'far' yet but some people get to the point where it looks like nickel. OK for a BBQ/range/carry gun but it limits potential buyers down the line.

I pretty much have acquired a gun for each of my birthdays for at least the last 20 years but never related them to my age. Now I want a 66 for my next birthday!!! Great idea!!!! :)

This makes me feel like part of some unique club, lol, because I've been doing the same thing since my 30th birthday. I get myself another revolver every year in September. When I hit 44, I plan on getting two 44 Magnums and maybe a rifle to go with it.

Not to worry Bob. Any Smiths I have that are 98%, have boxes & papers/tools I do not modify. This 66-1 that I picked up for $375 OTD is a shooter. I sent my (non 98%, no box, no papers/tools) M60 back to S&W's Performance Center for a factory mirror finish prior to engraving. I didn't want to spend that much on the 66.

I do modifications on CERTAIN firearms just for ME, not for resale. I have title II guns that have appreciated 400%+, so the S&Ws are my fun gun/shooters. I don't own any that I don't shoot. Besides, all of them will be split up between my two grandsons. I'll let them worry about resale value... as the cost to them is $0.00!
