I am new to Glocks

I just purchased a slightly used Glock and discovered they can malfunction.

After ever fired round the slide would stay open. I removed the loaded magazine and the only way I could charge the weapon was to release the slide lock.

I also noticed every time I dry fired without a magazine in the slide release would move up. My Glock 43 without the magazine in does not move.

If I was to guess I would think the spring is weak.

If anyone has any experience with this issue please let me know.

Thanks

Russ

Assuming there were no modifications before you aquired the Glock, I would replace the RSA. I'm sure others will offer additional advise.
As a side note replacing the recoil spring is the first thing I do on any pistol I buy.

Does it lock back with different mags?h

It is a common problem with Glocks that have been completely disassembled, knocking out the pins and removing the internals and then reassembling incorrectly. There is a small spring on the top of the slide stop lever. It may possibly be broken off, but I doubt that on a Gen 4 gun. More likely is was reassembled incorrectly. The little spring has to run beneath the frame pin instead of on top of it. If it is broken or assembled wrong there is no tension to hold it down and the weapon will go into slide lock on every shot. A gun shop or Glock armorer can fix it in about 30 seconds.

Find a glock armorer. Or watch a dissasembly and reassemble video. It has to be put back together in correct order or that can happen. Simple test with slide off frame pull up on slide stop and let go should snap back down. If it doesn't it was put back together in wrong order. Just take pins out and put back together in correct order. It is a very simple mistake that is why you should always check slide stop for tension after it has been apart.
