Gluing ceramic.

I have a outdoor thermometer that is ceramic (on the back at leased). The piece that the nail holds to is also ceramic. After a couple weeks outside the stupid thing fell to the deck. I tried Gorilla Glue to glue the main body back to the piece that hangs on the nail. In a couple weeks it broke off again.

Is there a special glue for ceramic?

Look into a ceramic specific epoxy.

I just repaired my wife's rabbit spoon holder that way using off the shelf two part 10 minute epoxy.

I've had good results with a good epoxy.

CLEAN the surfaces. If smooth, scratch them with a file corner.
 
Just a thought, did you remember to dampen the ceramic with water before applying the Gorilla glue? It's water activated. Worked very well on everything I have used it for.
 
My wife used to work for a ceramics wholesale distributor and was "factory trained" by three different ceramics companies. I just asked her and she recommends something like JBWeld or a glue called Bond 527. She's always used the latter to put ceramics back together including outdoor garden type pieces.

Well NO!!!! Why would I read the label again when I can be gluing something together.:D


You are correct Sir. I totally forgot to dampen it. I know it says it on the label and that's why I have a spray bottle next to the bottle of GG. Thanks


WOW! I have a CDL, a CCL and can't work glue..:eek:
