Well, I've got a borrowed RCBS Rock Crusher Jr., a Hornady scale (also borrowed), and a set of Lee .38 Special dies. I don't have the tube for the primers, or even a powder funnel, but I have assembled (and fired) some cartridges.

3.1 Grains of HP38 behind a 158 grain Sierra JHC.

I haven't done any of that chronography stuff, just confirmed that it has enough zots to propel the bullet relatively straight to the target, and not so much that it blows up the case.

In fact, based on the ease of extraction, I'd say it is on the light side.

I made about 35 rounds or so.

Glynpr,

I loaded for years before getting the primer tubes. It does slow things down a touch having to manually place a primer in the seating cup, plus the chances of fouling a primer go up from handling the primers. I can't comment on your load as I have never used HP38, I use Bullseye and Win231.

You're starting down a slippery slope, next you'll be scrounging dies for many calibers, buying a progressive and start casting bullets too.

Sir, good on ya. Mr. MKT's "slippery slope" comment is right on the money, BTW.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Wait until you are going to Goodwill and Salvation Army to get Pyrex baking pans to do your pan lubing in.
check out castboolits for more fun projects.
Best of luck.

When I made custom load for my rifles was the most fun I have had in reloading. I reload on a dillon now with load's that work for the gun I'm loading for. I still like doing it, but some of the fun is missing now. Take your time and enjoy.
