Goes anyone run MBUS with vortex a VMX3 (not 3T) magnifier?

Hi there, I just got a "as new" Sparc and VMX3 (not the newer VMX-3T) magnifier from ebay (for a pretty good, I think, $240).

Im from the UK and dont have my rifle yet hence asking you fine forumites...Does anyone with this magnifier have any issues fitting the magnifier over their MBUS sights? Or will I have to get surgical with an exacto knife?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris,

Yes, before I got my Eotech I used to run a SPARC & VMX3 combo on my 15-22. I found that the VMX3 (or at least the rubber collar around it) would bind up against the edge of the rear MBUS when I swung the mount. It didn't stop it entirely, but was enough of a restriction to affect quick swing changes during speed shooting (mini-rifle) comps.

My solution was to run the SPARC in the higher mount (lower 1/3) setup (high mounting block + shim) and I bought the matching American Defence Manufacturing swing mount in lower 1/3 setup. Worked like a charm, and I found it good to run the red dot above the MBUS sight picture (but still have the option to duck into the irons if needed).

As mentioned, I'm now running an Eotech and have sold my SPARC and VMX3, but I still have the ADM lower 1/3 swing mount, in mint condition. Not wanting to tout anything, but it's a good solution to your problem and I'm currently selling mine (I'm in the UK), so let me know if you're interested...

Ha, as it goes, I actually saw your mount on ebay... But sadly I havent got the £££ spare. To be honest, I dont mind attacking it with a blade...

Already made a kydex press, got an order ready for some internals... Pointless "tactical" mods... Its all in hand
