I had a really good day at the range with my 625-6 (5") .45 ACP. I was shooting a Group Buy bullet (200 gr SWC H&G #68 clone by MiHec) ahead of 4.5 grs of P5066 (alas, no more 5066 - it's been obsolete for many years) with Federal #150 LP primers. Here is the target - ten shots at 25 yards slow fire (97x100 with 6 "X's" - my personal best):

Due to age caused vision problems I shoot with my left eye (I am right handed). Here is a picture of my 625-6 with a Simmons Red Dot sight (I know most of you have already seen it but I am HIGH on a "Good day at the range", so you'll just have to excuse me:

In my view, the 625-6 is the REAL hero here. It is just SO easy to do well with this combination. One of the truly great target cartridges coupled with THE target revolver and it can lead to the above.

Just needed to share this with my good S&W friends.

Outstanding shooting with a truly excellent revolver that you obviously shoot very well indeed! Your handload is well matched to your handgun. With the Simmons Red Dot sight, you should be able to just about hold the black of that target all the way out to 50 yds. Sooner or later I will again be loading for my 625-2. I hope to be able to find a load using commonly available powders and bullets that will produce on target results equivalent to what you have experienced. It will likely take a lot of shooting. That's part of the fun of the whole process. Congratulations! Sincerely. brucev.

My 625-8 with red-dot does not make my shooting look that good but its not the guns's fault. (LOL) Congrats on excellent grouping with a superb conbination of gun, caliber and sight.

Thanks, good people. I just felt SO good, I HAD to share it with you.

My 625-8 Jerry Miculek Special (4" barrel) shoots just as well. It has just a "tiny bit" better trigger (on a scale of 1-10, the 625-6 is a 10 and the 625-8 is a 10.5) and the 5" may hold just a bit better, MAYBE.

I put JM spring kits in them both and set them at 9.0 lbs double action and 3.0 lbs single action. I also put extended firing pins in them (I want them to go BANG no matter what brand of primer I have).

I have a safe full of revolvers and these are my two most used and enjoyed. They NEVER fail to satisfy (and I am HARD to satisfy(:>)).

Excellent Dale! You should post this in the reloading section too. Then you can show all of the new guys who are asking lots of good questions, just what they should be shooting for. Pun Intended.:)

Great shooting Dale. I have a 625-8 that I love to shoot, but I can't shoot it that well. Thanks for the report.

Don;
I have done my share of match shooting (several hundred, including World Class, in fact). However, these days I prefer leisure shooting (Heck, I am 74 and just GETTING to the range has ALMOST become a chore(:>)) well, not really a chore but maybe an adventure(:>)).

At any rate, I thought, a couple of years ago, that my range time was over due to serious vision problems. That's when I "discovered" Red Dot Sights... When I could see, I could shoot as well with iron sights as I could with scope sights (scope sights DID extend the hunting time at both ends of the day). These days, I can still shoot a bit with iron sights but Red Dots make it a LOT more fun.
