I'm stuck indoors recovering from a herniated disk injury and started thinking about gun purchases I made in 2018. Now the years prior I sold off a bunch of rifles and some plastic guns as I wanted to expand my meager collection of Smith and Wesson beyond a 19-5 and a 686-4. So I told myself if the right deal comes along let's get some more k or j frames but only if it's a good deal. Lo and behold one year later I managed to get quite a few additions. Unfortunately my years long build up of gun money is officially gone and there are no rifles and plastic guns to sell so I need to scrimp and save for awhile before I can even think of buying another gun.

All these I got under market value imho and the price next to them is my total cost including fees and transfer
15-2 4" NIB at a bi annual local gun show $550

15-3 4" used from a forum member $480
Bluing shows no wear and I did some upgrades with a Wolff kit
This is my current home defense gun. It came with Pachmayr but the wife can shoot this with ease with her arthritis so I kept them on.

17-2 6" used from my FFL $450
My FFL discounted this gun heavily because of a bunch of light scratches on the frame and cylinder. After picking it up he said you're in luck. Those scratches turned out to be felt hair as the previous owner stored it in a red felt cloth. Once I cleaned it up it was easily a 98% finish gun. Plus it came with a home made flap holster.

14-4 6" used from an arm listing site $590.
The stocks had some major finish loss but once I got it home it looked like the previous owner used grip tape so just left over gunk and they cleaned up nice. Very minor turn line and one sweet trigger. Only thing I had to do was add a hammer block. Mainspring and trigger return are Wolff.

Finally a 36 no dash used from my FFL $500
This also came from an estate sale. Box and papers plus cleaning kit and easy 98% - looks like the owner shot it once and put it back in the safe.

So I'm stuck indoors oiling the blue steel treasures and looking forward to getting back on my feet to go shooting
The NIB I'm not going to shoot until this June when I turn 50. There's a separate thread on that but all the others are shooters for sure.

I'm blessed to have a good job and understanding wife but cursed because my FFL starts with me on all the blued guns from S&W. I was tempted by a pristine birth year made 10-5 4" but have always wanted a j frame plus I could only afford one so the 36 got the nod. That model 10 had some light scratches on the side plate from a belt holster snap but was priced to sell out the door at $380.

I figure it's time to spend shooting instead of purchasing but if I can build up the stash and if my FFL tempts me with another blued S&W then all bets are off!😁

Sorry I picked the wrong forum. I blame pain meds and my fat fingers. Moderators can you please move this to the correct forum Smith & Wesson Revolvers 1961 to 1980

You sir, are addicted. Get professional help!

You guys are no help at all. :-)

Now I want to get a 14, 15, 17 and 36 in Nickel for a matching set!!!!

If the wife finds out how much I spent I'm a dead man.

Guess I need to sell a kidney because it took me well over two years to save up the money I spent on those blued guns.

At least it gives me a goal for the next two years to save for.

Bluosis is cured...Now I'm starting to come down with a bad case of Nickelitis.

Oh, you're not even close to done with the blue ones!

You need a square butt Model 36 (with a 2" barrel).

Then a 3" Model 36 with a tapered barrel,
then a 3" Model 36-1 Heavy Barrel -- both in round butt, of course,
then a square butt of each of those, too.

THEN, you can start on the nickel ones.

Are you beginning to see what you've gotten yourself into?

Don't get your hopes too high for a nickel K22. You could get one nickeled cheaper than you could buy one.

And spending too much, hiding guns from/lying to wife, trading on a razors edge, robbing kids piggy-banks, skipping or packing lunch to save for the gun fund and selling or pawning stuff you really didn't NEED is only treating the symptoms of the aforementioned afflictions. There is no cure.

I started a research institution about managing or eliminating this scourge of mankind and we've had encouraging results. Make checks payable to the Council on Aquiring and Selling Handguns or CASH for short and send to me as soon as possible. We will win this fight!

Nickel 17 YIKES

I can't spend any money but I can window shop. Just looking on broker for nickel versions of my blued guns and came across a model 17 nickel for $3499

HOLY SMOKES

I think I'll stick to enjoying what I have

With your sickness....Smith Bluosis, you fit in well here, but you knew that.

BTW, the only known cure is an empty wallet. However one can always trade!

Wow, you really held off for some nice ones too. They all look pristine!!! I'm guessing you are enjoying them!!!!

Blue is my favorite too. :D

They look more like guns. LOL

I made my last gun acquisition in 2018. I'm done other than selling some.

I look at it this way... Your stuck in Bed, your back is killing you, nothing on TV, grab the lap top ...then it starts... SW Forum...Then GBroker... Then you start calling friends, Who are at Work, "Know anyone with a Smith Wheel Gun FS"...thats just before you wince in pain again, which clears your mind, and you take another Pain pill and scroll through the TV channels...then it starts again...you come to the out door channel... doing a special on SW revolvers...AHHHHHHH. Happened to me the same way I was stuck in bed for 3 weeks Post Priapism surgery...awful.

My oldest son sent me this...

...on January 2nd

I've always been more attracted to blued steel also. I don't own any nickel or stainless guns. Closest thing I have is a S&W 745 IPSC with stainless frame and blued slide. So one half and half.
