I'm glad I swapped out my barrel for the untreaded version.
No way I want an all expenses paid vacation to the place where you dare not drop the soap.

There is something in it that I was not aware of and unless I'm missreading it, it specifically outlaws several rifles by name, including the Colt AR-15.

We need to get some people up in Albany with more than two brain cells in their heads, cause the clowns who pass laws like this have no idea what they are doing.
 
If you read the articles they state that one of the reasons the guns are illegal and dangerous is because the "collapsing" stock makes them concealable. :eek: I know New York politicians have deep pockets when it comes to taxpayer's money but I didn't think they were deep enough to conceal a 31" long rifle because the stock adjusted 2".

Every time I read something like this it makes me happy I moved out of New York. :D
 
Man do I feel sorry for you guys in NY I have a saiga 12 guage on the way and will be getting a 20 rd drum for it I love MI I think it is funny how a 20 rd drum full of buckshot could be legal but I am a safe person and don't plan on mowing people down god bless America lol:D

I'm sure the concealable part is more likely in reference to something like a Sig or an AK with a full collapsing stock. Therefore truly making it easier to conceal. Unfortunately, guns like the AR with a "collapsible" stock get rolled into the same legislation due to ignorance and misinformation. You are correct though, two inches of stock travel really does not affect the capability or conceal-ability of a rifle.
 
I may be wrong, but I don't think such guns are illegal in Texas, in fact I may have such a rifle myself. Poor NY surrounded by all these states with lax dangerous gun laws, gunshops selling guns that are illegal in NY, and dreaded gunshows illegally selling illegal in NY guns. Why as far away as Arizona they are doing things that in NY are illegal.
Did the politicians in NY ever stop to think that maybe they are out of step with most of the rest of the country?

If the jackasses in Albany had their way no one, ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET would be allowed to have even a picture of a gun.
So count your blessings and make damn sure you keep the 'we know what's best for you' leftists as far away form elective office as you can.
Otherwise you'll be in the same boat with us before you know what happened.

Didn't you read about New York City's billionaire mayor Bloomberg sending undercover investigators to Arizona to prove that gun dealers there would sell guns without background checks? Maybe Bloomberg should look at all the murders in NYC, where only criminals are allowed to have guns, and spend less of his time worrying about what the rest of the country is doing. :rolleyes:
 
There is a loophole re. large capacity magazines. It says they are permitted if manufactured prior to 1994. But, they are not date stamped. They still sell them at gun shows. So, how do you prove when they were made and thus you are in compliance?
 
With guns made before 94 its kind of tough for them to do.
Unfortunately with the MP15-22's its a no brainer, even for stupid politicians because it wasn't made that long ago.
Funny thing is that I have an AP-74 that looks like a dead ringer for an early model M-16, it doesn't have a collapsible or folding stock, but it does have a threaded barrel, prominent handgrip assembly, flash suppressor and a 14 shot mag.
But they can't say squat about it because I bought it legally in the middle 70's from a gun store I was working in at the time.
Looks neat, dust cover even works. But its not the greatest shooter because no amount of work has stopped it from jamming or failing to feed.
I think they actually stopped making it before that law was passed.

It's not just N.Y's problem but every gun owners. Home Depot sells all the tools to turn that legal gun into an "Assault Weapon". A simple hacksaw can make a regular stock into a pistol grip and saw the barrell down to illegal length. Remember: Doo doo rolls downhill.

The thing is, that example is flawed. Those elected work for us. They are supposed to pass laws and enact legislation that we the people tell them to pass. Not the other way around.

Good luck with that in a state like NY where the lefties in the cities outnumber everyone else.

I swear if some of the fools we have to deal with had brains made of TNT it wouldn't be enough to blow their noses.

But we keep trying and maybe someday they will separate the NY city area from upstate and we can get some people in office with more than two brain cells to rub together.
 
What a load of ****..... like there's a bunch of crazies running around here in Rochester with with those dangerous assault weapons with a collapsable stock, and the city is just flooded with them !!! These politicians do not have a clue. One of our fine Monroe County judges this past week thought he would dictate how many guns or guns of the same caliber you could have on your carry permit. So, since he is going to save us all and to heck with NY state laws, he was having the coupon held for his review you get when registering a handgun with the County Clerk's Office ! Justthought he could do a little gun control on his own ! Yes America, every single pistol you want here in NY requires registration on your carry permit. Costs me $3 and a trip downtown every time I want to buy something. Makes me wonder how many carry permit applications are collecting dust on judge's desks, waiting for approval..... Shoo

I used to live in Nassau County and have been to all of those shops and dealt with all of those employees. I gotta admit that T&T was real shady, although they had good deals. I once looked at a Beretta PX4 there. I dropped the mag and saw it was a 17 round one. The employee, who was one of those named in the article, said "don't mention that when you add it to your permit". Hunter Sports always seemed real strict, and they always dealt with cops, so that one surprises me. Coliseum was always filled with cops. They once offered me $100 for a Glock 26 that I bought from them 2 weeks before for $500, AND I added nightsights! They also offered me $20 for a Ruger SP101 I inquired about trading! Still, they always seemed to follow the letter of the law.

Over the last two years, I have spent some time in Monroe county (for my work) and don't recall hearing about that. It is amazing that one Judge can do that without cause.
Over here in Erie County, we have switched to the plastic permit cards. Adding an additional gun costs $5 as opposed to $3 when we had paper. Our current county clerk has reduced the amount of time it takes for a permit application to clear her office. I hear of folks getting their permits in 3-4 months. Back in the early '90's, it took me over a year. She also put the pistol permit department in a local gunshow (Hamburg) twice a year. It is nice to buy a pistol at show and take it home that day. All this and she is a Democrat (not a mistake, I wrote Democrat!).

This is GOOD news. I am in Erie County and was going to begin the process.

I better look into it sooner than later - for fear that Rochester may spread West.

You have to have the gun(s) you carry listed on your carry permit? Sounds like State registration to me.
What is the pistol permit you buy at the gun show?

Handguns are registered with the state, the county clerks offices are just the designated representatives assigned to do all of the paperwork for the state.

You can't get a permit at a gun show, but the county clerks office generally sets up an office at a show, even in Monroe county, to allow permit holders to get a gun added to their permit.
Otherwise you would have to go downtown on Monday to get a purchase document and have it added to your permit before you could take any handgun home.

Yeah, what he said. For years I went to gun shows and never purchased a pistol. If I did, I would have to pay in full, get a receipt, and take it to downtown Buffalo. The pistol permit department puts the gun on your permit (and gives you a purchase document). Only then can you pick it up. As you can imagine, the pistol permit department is not open on the weekend. Therefore, you would have to pay for the gun in full and hope the dealer was honest enough not to sell it (again) and give it to you when you arrived at his shop. I was never that trustworthy.
And yes, all guns are listed on your permit. For example, I can't loan a gun to a friend who has a permit so he can take it hunting or target shooting. it would have to be put on his permit.

TECHNICALLY, if you read the letter of the law your not even allowed to touch a handgun unless its already listed on your permit.
Actually getting a chance to handle and maybe shoot a handgun in NY BEFORE you have a permit is completely out of the question, legally.
In order to stay compliant with the law dealers are not allowed to let you do more than look at a gun through the glass unless you can show them a permit.

The politicians have plenty to do, giving our money away to everyone else.
The police also have plenty to do too, but its more often than not in the more metropolitan areas where the drug dealers and muggers keep them busy.

The more rural areas tend to be a lot more peaceful because the bad guys are not stupid enough to mess with people who have guns, know how to use them, and are not afraid to do so.

Funny how the politicians never seem to put two and two together and grasp the simple concept that guns in the hands of law abiding people seem to keep the less savory elements of society in check.

I know a fellow on another forum (not gun related) who has a Glock 23 and is in NY. I found an old G22 NFML magazine that I could have sold to some poor NY resident, but instead I sent it to him for free. Being NFML, it is assured to have been built before the 1994 date.
 
NY is the probably the worst when is comes to all outdoor related activities, hunting seasons/regulations, firearms. We just finally got the OK to use Crossbows ( only for Deer & Bear)

Only during the REGULAR firearms seasons in the Northern and Southern Zone, during the LATE muzzleloading and bowhunting seasons, and during the January firearms season in Suffolk County, beginning with the 2011-2012 hunting seasons and continuing until December 31, 2012.

They only signed it into law for 2 hunting seasons, and you can't even hunt Turkeys or small game with one.

This state is messed up
 
Strange NY regs

Yea, does it make any sense that they pin my stock on the m&p 15/22 and restrict the mags to 10rnds. I guess they think that I can hide it in my pocket. Yet I bought a mossberg 590 spec purchase 12 guage at Dicks with 8+1 cap, pistol grip, barrel shroud, and bayonet lug that fits a m7 bayonet. Now according to NYS laws you can't have any 2 of the above but Dicks can sell them. Go figure! And the AK 47s that I bought this year come with 30rd mags. I can buy all of the high cap mags for ak's and still be in compliance, but can't buy 25rd mags for my .22, stupid, stupid, lawmakers.:mad:
