Good Working Ambi Safety for 15-22

There is no box stock option for an Ambi safety because the lower receiver is thicker on the 15-22 than a standard AR. But, persons have successfully custom fit a second lever to the existing safety.

Are you a lefty? You are free to do what you want with your money and all, and it is a pretty awesome safety selector, but I have trouble trying to think of a reason why I would even want to spend $60 on a safety selector. Even if I had it, I would probably still only use my thumb to move the selector back and forth. Again, I'm just curious on why you want an ambi-selector, I am not trying to be a jerk.

so i don't have to move my hand from shooting position to turn on safe or not. my 5.56 AR is set up with ambi, ergo i can go to fire with the thumb of my right hand and safe it with the index finger of the same hand all without moving either hand from the group. i would like to be able to do the same with the 15-22

Oh, alright. I just checked and I guess I do have to move my hand off the grip a little to put it back on safe - never really noticed. I'm also pretty new to shooting.

yea not a big fan of cutting up the factory parts. anybody else got a solution? tacticool22 this seems like a good project. or how about the guy that redid the BAD lever to work on our guns?
i mean if the receiver is thicker wouldn't it just be a matter of extending the center section of the safety pin to a couple "mm" longer? couldn't this be done in a CAD program and then machined to spec?

just curious...i know i over simplified it

Yes you over-simplified it, and yes it could be done in CNC very easily, but it also has to be profitable.. So that means the person who develops the part needs to cover prototype cost, and production cost.

How much are you willing to pay for an ambi-lever machined out of aluminum and mil spec anodized for the 15-22?

a little snappy huh brett? tone it down gezz.

i know a person that runs a company that does some rapid prototyping work. i will see if i can get in touch with him to see what he can come up with. he owes me a favor so maybe he can help out with a working prototype, hell if he thinks it's profitable he might even want to produce it. will post back if/when i hear back from him

There was nothing snappy about Brett428's response. You seem to discount everyone's response who doesn't say what you want to hear. If your friend can hook you up, great. If he decides to manufacture them, even better. If not, the mod shouldn't be that difficult. Sometimes, you just have to take the dremel to your gun.

Sorry I didn't realize that was a snappy reply, I thought when I typed it I was just being clear, concise and to the point.

You asked about someone manufacturing them. I gave you an honest answer. A friend "hooking you up" is different than a manufacturer investing into producing a finished product. I could make anything I wanted with the right tools and my own time, but there comes a point where you have to determine if your time is worth anything, when the answer to that question is yes, then it's a product you need to sell.

That's all I was trying to say.

Hope that doesn't come across as snappy :)

Does it have to be ambi? Im a lefty and I just flipped the stock selector since it has detent grooves on both sides. Its a very nice stock option from S&W, I wonder why its not more common.
